Hey Guy - Mac OS 10.8, Mountain Lion is a brand new OS just released last week. It's Canon's responsibility to keep up the the OS, not Apple's. Apple had three month's of developer previews and Canon had ample time to upgrade the EOS utility to work with the new OS. And, BTW, do you think that windows 8 will work with the EOS utility out of the box? Let's keep this civil, and not throw stones at the wrong guy:cool:

Lou

I could say it's just as much Apple's responsibilty to make sure software works with a new release. What is so different in Mountain Lion that a basic program like EOS Utility needs an update to work. Ever heard of backward compatability? Or is that forgotten because it's Apple?

As far as upgrading versions of Windows and software issues, sure they happen, but just as often you can reload old software with 0 updates needed. I currently have several programs/games that I have run on Win XP, Vista 32/64 and 7 32/64 with no updates or hassles. I have old peripherals that have not had driver updates since before Win 7 was released, but they work just fine with older Vista drivers.

It can be done, Apple just chooses not to.

You can still run Windows 95 and 98 software on Windows 7, can you run Mac II Classic software on a modern Mac ? i seriously doubt it. Yes we on Windows will be able to run Canon's software just fine when Windows 8 ships soon.

Back on topic now, i have been messing with the new firmware all day long and so far i really like what i see. The camera performs very well so far. It will be tested under fire tomorrow when i will be shooting Alice Cooper's concert here. :)

My firmware is 1.1.0 do I have to update to 1.2.5 first or can I go straight to V2 ?

David

You don't have to do incremental updates, you can go straight to the V2.0.0 firmware.

Just and FYI. I contacted Canon looking for a new manual. I carry mine with me in my camera bag and Canon does not supply them separately. They only come with the camera. I offered to pay for one, but it's a no go. Only the PDF is available. An 8.5" by 11" book is a little tough to stuff into my bag.:o

Too bad. Maybe just print the new features.

Just go through the manual and learn how the camera works fully.

Then you'll carry that knowledge with you wherever you go, and it's less heavy..! ;)

Shouldn't matter, each firmware update carries the payload from all previous firmwares. However, once you go to 2.0.0, you cannot go back, which is usually not the case, you can load any version firmware on previous bodies for most of the updates in the past.

76% done to a new camera!
I wish they did that for cars. Every 3 years you get a nice upgrade such as turbo, direct injection etc! For free of course! :D

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!

Looks like I won't be able to get bursts of 25 :( I only have a 400x card.. Will it work? Cause UDMA 6 is 600x IIRC.

I have two 600x cards (1 SanDisk and 1 Transcend) and I "only" get 22 frames.
