Sorry, I’ll try to keep this as short as possible.
Question: Which lens should I get? 24-70/2.8 mk1, 24-70/2.8 mk2, 24-105/4IS for occasional weddings and travel?
Background: I currently shoot portraits and fashion and I mainly use my 70-200/2.8 mk2 with my strobes and that set up works pretty awesome. I buy and sell and buy and sell lens and can’t seem to get the right combination, or maybe that’s the fun. I’m currently looking for a wider angle lens for occasional wedding and travel. 24-70/2.8 mk1 is around $1300 CND give or take but for some reason it’s harder to find now, and can’t get it new anymore, the soon to be out 24-70/2.8mk2 is around $2400 and the24-105/4IS is around $850 used. What option would you go with? The reason I am considering the 24-70/2.8 mk2 is I upgraded my70-200/2.8 non is to the mk2 and IQ wise it was pretty noticeable and worth the money, so I hope the 24-70/2.8 mk2is that much of a jump in iq. The only problem is I find the 24-70/105 range to be pretty normal at f/2.8 or f/4, it’s not as unique as say a prime in that range 50/1.2 or 35/1.4 or even the 85/1.2 so my plan is to get a zoom + a prime.
If I go with the 24-105 it’s relatively cheaper and difference in $ I can spend towards my prime, that’s one reason why I’m considering this.
I’ve owned the 24-70/2.8 before and the 24-105/4 before and sold them, but now I need something in that range.
I've owned the 50L and 85L but leaning towards the 85L as the supplement prime for that unique look.
Is 24-105/4 good enough for weddings + a prime? (and my 70-200)
I already have about $2500 saved up in my lens fund for this zoom and need to save up more for the prime lens.
Hope the question makes sense, any insights or experiences would be apperciated!
