we need others to test this before swapping firmware as well to see if canon did change the something on the ISO and didn't tell us.

Or someone with 2 7d's

Just shooting a scene at ISO 100 vs ISO 12800 will create a large file size difference in the raws. Also, keep in mind, the raw contains a full size JPG image, so the noisier the image, the larger the JPG, the larger the raw. I am sure there is nothing in this firmware that has altered the raw substantially.

If somebody wants to do the ISO 3200/6400 test before and after with raw, we would be able to debunk your theory too, or prove it.

I think that Canon increased the ISO-Limit Set by User, must first reduce the noise !!!

Well, this firmware will not last long.

Canon's service notice (external link)

Gives them time to fix the "movie" mis-spelling too.

Using a SanDisk Extreme 32GB 60MB/s UDMA card and I seem to be getting about 22 shots burst which is plenty to me. If I had an even faster card I could get the full 23 shots or better but I don't feel the need to upgrade my cards yet.

As long as you don't put any EF 40 mm f/2.8 STM on the camera - nothing. But I assume they'll update the firmware of the cameras to fix this, since it seems to help to mess with the power supply to the lens. Updating the lenses to fix a production mistake is much more costly for Canon, since the user's can't do that as far as I know.

I have noticed nothing. Perhaps upgrading the firmware has changed some settings that cause some to notice better ISO performance, or it is just a placebo effect? :)

What I would expect is that the High ISO NR value changed on the owner on the test shots above. If Canon changed anything at all, they might have changed the under-the-cover NR values by each setting/each ISO. I might have time to recheck these values that I logged from a year or two ago. Of course it doesn't appear that DPP is being used, so I don't know what the software being used is honoring from the raw file settings, if any.

3200 is my current limit too. Is interesting to see the 6400 shots, but its rare to see one where the apparent noise is ok on the eye.

I would love to see this update improve noise, but i feel this is more wishful thinking by us all.
