Anyone here had (or have) both the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II and the Canon 70-200 2.8 II? I'm about to sell my Canon and replace it with this Nikon and am worried. I think the Canon is an exceptional lens and am wondering how does the Nikon compare to the Canon.

Both preform very similar. Slight edge to Canon 70-200MK II since it doesn't have focus breathing when focus close toward 200mm.
But then the 70-200MK II can only be used with 5D3 sensor while the 70-200VR II can be used with D800 sensor

First image that wasn't of something testing focus. Took it last night. Nothing special from a composition standpoint, but I needed to shoot something other than a focus chart. :D I boosted the shadows all the way to see what the camera could do. Pretty much everything over her right shoulder was black before. This thing is impressive. Can't wait to get outside and take some more pictures with it.

I love my d800 but I sent to Nikon 3 times to be cleaned. My unit spits oil like crazy. I've tried cleaning it myself with sensor swabs and eclipse fluid and it's really stubborn. I've done a timelapse with it so I'm sure the constant shutter causes it. Anyone have similar experiences?

Any sample of the spits? I haven't seen any on mine

Mine was a left focus issue and crazy dust bunnies on my sensor. Brought it to Nikon in Long Island, its under B1 category, I was told 7-10 days before I get it back.

I've shot with both and you are not loosing anything with the Nikon version. Both are exceptional.

My sensor does get dirty but nothing I can't clean myself and nothing that looks like oil.

Have you posted this earlier in the thread? I've read another account of oil on the sensor, can't remember if it was here or somewhere else. I don't have the oil problem but the sensor does get a little dusty and needs a good blowing once in a while.

An excellent photo of a lovely subject. So nice to see a natural-looking picture that isn't clinically sharp or excessively PP'd.

Oh god yes, mine does this as well. Gets oil on it from something--pretty sure it's the shutter. At first, it was CRAZY, oil everywhere after the first couple days. Took me forever to clean it that first time. It's gradually gotten better. I do need to clean it again, though, there's a few spots on it. I use the copper hill cleaning method, works fine. Never had any sensor cleaning issues on my 60d that a simple blower wouldn't fix.

It sounds like they were a little too generous on the oil on some units. Fortunately mine wasn't one of them and I have an early SN (under 400).

I'll have to check mine when it gets a few more clicks on it. Wasn't this a D700 problem as well?
