I started to purchase a 5d II last week, but after the sales tax is paid, the price difference between a new 5D II and refurb is @ $200. So Imay stick with buying a new one. Just wish it was 20% instead of the current 10%.

A2, 60D, 5DII
Canon EF 17-40mm L
EF 100mm L
Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L
Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L USM,Canon 50 1.4, 430 EXII,580 EXII

Depending on what state you live in, you could order from newegg or someplace live that, and save almost that much with not having to pay the canon direct tax... The camera's generally appear to be very good, but you really lose out on warrentee with a refurb. I'd go new if it was just 10%...

If you and many other people come to the same conclusion, Canon will start to have trouble unloading refurbs, and discount will probably have to be adjusted back to 20%...

edit : opps - just remembering CLP is normal 20% refurb price PLUS CLP discount of either 10 or 20%. That only ended up being $200 difference between clp 5d II and new one?

Huh? Since when would you get two discounts? The discount is for being a previous canon owner. the discount on the refurb reflects this and isn't a discount just because it's a refurb...

you do get two...

normal - 100% cost
refurb - less than full cost
CLP - typically 20% off already reduced refurb cost

OK, I understand what you were saying now. I thought you were trying to say that you were able to get two discounts off the canon refurb price.

Think mk1 is part of CLP not mk2...

Sorry, rechecked first post, now I need to prevent myself from being near a phone or card...

just wanted to say that I got my 70-200 2.8 mkii through the clp program a few months ago.... and you can't tell the difference between a new one and the refurb one.... and it's a savings of $$$$.... so whoever's shopping for one.... better grab this... it's been months that it's out of stock....

Keep in mind that you can only purchase a lens at the CLP discount in conjunction with the purchase of a CLP camera (although there is no minimum quality requirement for the body - hint, hint!)

I just bought a 60D for that very purpose, so that I could snag the 70-200. So, if anyone out there is interested in buying the 60D and would like to save on taxes and/or doesn't have a camera to trade in, shoot me a PM. I'll pass along for the same price I just paid ($640) plus shipping.

Only 10% off the 5D MK II. The other camera bodies are 20% I believe.

So if I was interested in a camera body, lens and flash, 1 trade-in Canon camera would be eligible for the CLP discount? Or is it 1 trade-in camera per item? Sorry if this was asked/discussed already.
