Spent the afternoon yesterday watching an Osprey nest built on the California Maritime Academy pier. Two chicks and very protective parents. I wish I had access to bigger artillery than my 400 5.6, but I made the best of it. I love the autofocus on this camera.

I think you might be using Live view for movies. There is a menu option to choose live view for stills only (somewhere in live view settings). Choose that and you should be able to go as long as 30 seconds. My camera is with canon for routine service otherwise I would have provided exact menu option.
