Hey POTNers
Slowy going through some 2800 pics I took from this past Saturday at the track.
Been going to this track since 99, & now lil tired of shooting from the spectator area's trying to find unique angles and backdrops from those limited spaces, soo anyone out there want to hook me up next time welllllllllllllll I would welcome that change to look at some new sky and trees haha.

Here's 8 + a few direct lnks that I think look pretty cool, I'll add a slideshow to my thread here once I get it narrowed down to a couple hundred pics or soo.

All great, only one that hits my OCD full blast is #4. Either have them all looking at the camera or make it a candid, I hate when half are looking at your camera, 1/4 looking at another phtog camera, and another 1/4 blinking or looking into space. I usually limit these shots to when I am the only photog.

Great set though!

You have some where the subject(car) is in focus from front-back and some where only the rear wheel is in focus, etc.
If that's what you're going for then great.

Preston Yep. Going into this day I had a plan, not really to get the whole cars in focus as those are easy to get with spinning the shutterspeed up, but to test a few things, first off this was the first time I spun on my 3 stop Hoya ND filter to get the apertures down with lower shutterspeeds, in fact I'd say out of the 2300 or soo ontrack pics I took this day %99 of the pics I used speeds of 1/15 to 1/50 all hand held with the IS on on my 70-200, soo did'nt plan on getting the whole cars in focus, I Also want some wall art for my place and wanted some blurr with pretty colors. and like I said in my original text I don't work for no one, soo don't need the whole car Sharp this day. Now I kind've know what speeds I can use to get the whole cars in focus with this combo, I also was testing the sensitivity tracking on the 7D and moved it too all the way fast, up from all the way slow from my Grand Am efforts a couple months earlier at MidOhio.. & I still don't know which works better. its hard to tell

but yeah haha that sums it up a bit on what the effort you see here.
thanks for the feedback though!

Nice shots! Panning at those shutter speeds is something that I've really been trying to work on, and I really like how these came out.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it out for ALMS/Indy, but I've been going to Mid-O for the superbike races for over 10 years, and feel your pain looking for new spots to shoot from.

I can't 'officially' condone it, but rumor has it that there's a hole in the spectator fencing around the back side of T9 that you can squeeze through for some pretty good angles...

Thanks Will, yeah total test day to see how low I can go with this lense and body and filter combo. Yeah on Superbike, I was in Colorado that weekend this year, bummed I missed that weekend!

I know of that hole and used it once, there were people of official looking dressed near there this day soo I did'nt want to cause a converstation :) haha

cheers

Great shots - it's a real shame ALMS won't be back this year.
