Oh man, you should get it just to resell! lol

Which advanced features on 7D vs 1D? Video is one, for sure, but I think the T2i with ML beats the 7D for video, handily, and we both have one of those.

Another consideration is that the 1D3 was still $4500 when the 7D was announced for $1700. Right now, you can buy them w/in $200 of each other on the used market.

I am not really familiar with 1d accept that i think they are old but a flagship of canon, they are really going down (used) average I've seen is 1200 so far. I think the bigger sensor they have is the more sharper I think. Did not really research that much with 1d mark III accept that I keep reading it has tremendous image quality. I got so excited in 7d so much so did not pay attention with 1d 1 thing I am afraid is breaking down on me. Perhaps I should have not kept this to myself a week ago in the thread, maybe now I am enjoying the 1d he he he.

You did not go wrong with the 7D. Awesome camera, and everyone knows it. 1D was a slightly better choice for me, but it's not perfect. I lost some sleep deciding between 7D and 1D. I'm already missing the 17-55, for instance.

I did see that, and I can see why you were concerned with 10.1MP. I'm more interested in a test where you're looking at the same composition, not the same lens on each camera. Every photographer works to get a certain composition. A dedicated 1-camera birder with a 1D3 is going to choose different lenses than if she had a 7D.

In the pool, for instance, with a swimmer coming at me using my 70-200, I actively zoom out as they approach, and maintain the same composition with either camera, using the same lens. In this situation, my 1D is sharper.

So, I think those kinds of tests are hoaky unless you plan to spend a significant portion of your photographic experience using a lens that isn't quite long enough. That may be the case for birding, but not for me in sports or events. I'll be clicking with the same composition on both cameras, so the cropping % will be identical.

As you know, MP is mainly about image size so it depends what you want to do with the final images.
I've said it before but 10.1 is easily enough to enlarge a picture to a very large size.
I have photos framed on my walls in A1 size and they were only taken with a 6MP Nikon D40.
You can go over the images with a fine-toothed comb and you won't find any shortcomings in terms of IQ.

Great images by all on the last 4-5 pages by the way. Good stuff.

I stumbled with it today during my break, I noticed the lens is like 800mm if I am not mistaken...lol, I agree with you. And I think you are spot on with your analysis with the pool. I think 1d mark III is superior to 7d. I will be using my t2i mainly for family occasions and friends gathering and in some landscapes. Main reason I got the 7d is for bird and sports of my kids. For now I am well contented just need to practice and shoot more often with both cameras.

it looked much better on the camera screen but i like it anyway . Used a flash continuously to light paint it and balance the exposure with the street lights , it's a 10 seconds exposure .

Thanks jamz.

Mitch - not AF my friend. You are right AF is never responsive enough.
I find a better keeper rate now with IS off and using MF.

That light painting shot is amazing. Again something that never crossed my mind.
