Ran across this one from last year, the arch at Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur, CA...think it was my first shoot with an ND filter.

Having quality glass filter must make all the difference here. I have some plastic ND filters and the color cast and sharpness is so awful I usually can't use the images......

Aren't you right next to Possession Sound and mountains? All make for great photo ops.

Yup I am right in the Possession area, but all my beaches don't have to rocks that make such great shots. I have to go to Deception Pass to get some nice large rocks in the tide. There may be something closer somewhere, but I haven't found it yet. I am looking forword to my next couple hikes though. I'm climbing a few mountains and hoping the views are great from the top, with a few clouds ;)

Ya. You at least are in a state that has a coast. A good one at that too.

I am very happy about that at least. I really do need to take a trip out to the Pacific Coast though, get some of the active beach shots. Puget Sound is relatively calm compared to the ocean.

Like it a lot. I'm planning a coastal drive from LA to San Francisco next year and am planning on stopping on route to take some long exposure shots. With all the great scenery in the area I'm sure I'll be stopping every hundred yards or so, much to the wife's annoyance!

Thank you, I was pretty happy with the result, especially considering I barely knew what I was doing

The trip sounds great; I hope you're planning on more than one day. I see you're from the UK, so you may or may not be aware of the bad traffic in the LA & SF areas, plus much of the road up the coast, Hwy 1, will be slow going because of the curves even if you weren't pulling over constantly. It's well worth it though! One main issue is that the weather is unpredictable. It can be nice and sunny throughout California, but overcast on the coast.

I visit the coast often, feel free to PM me if you have questions. I probably have bookmarks of websites for lesser-known photography spots, too.
