One way would be to use software. Another way would be to bring a filter to cover the flash, so it knocks down its effectiveness.

I tried the software route on his pictures, but there wasn't enough information in the finished photo to increase the lightness of the grass.

yea reduce the output of the flash to get "just a touch" of fill. i took a screen grab of the manual, page 123 for your reference.

Thanks, just basic PP in Lr4.

Btw, they are all JPEGs. I don't shoot raw files with the Canon S100.

I have gotten into the habit of throwing the S100 into my pocket when we go down to the waterfront to sit & eat our weekly fish & chips dinner
