As a new T4i owner, I'm finding that it is one of the most sophisticated cameras I've had. I've owned several SLR/DSLR bodies including a 5D2, so sure, it's no 1D series, but gosh, the things it can do at the price point are just amazing!

So I'm a bit surprised that Canon marketing materials I've seen keep referring to it as an entry level DSLR. I really don't have a problem with having this wonderful model being called an entry level camera with entry level prices, but just out of curiosity, is there an MBA around here that articulate the company's rationale? TIA!

Because it is Canon's current entry level dSLR? Do you know what "entry level" is?

I think if you look at the camera lineup based on features and build quality, they naturally line up in a certain order. While I agree, the T4i is no slouch, I think it speaks more to how much technology is trickling down to consumer grade cameras than anything else.

The Canon rebel line has always been their most affordable low-end camera line. They just keep adding more features and function as the competition brings the heat. If the Rebel isn't Canon's entry level, what would be?

Entry level usually means lowest most affordable model, and nothing much to do with how complicated or feature-rich that model may be.

Entry-level: of or being at the lowest level of a hierarchy

I would agree it's a great camera. But please don't stir up the gear heads.

The T3(1100D) is their entry-level camera. The T4i would be their entry-level camera.. with video.

The T4i might have a ton of features, but it's like when AC and power windows became standard on all cars. Eventually the higher end luxuries filter down to the cheaper lines. Consider the fact that the body is still less rugged and the fps and AF aren't as fast/high as the higher end bodies... There still is no water/dust resistance.

LOL

It's what everyone has said.
When I got the first T2i in Nov of 2010 and another in Feb of 2011 it ranked right up on a number of levels with Canon's finest crop cameras.
It didn't have the 7D AF system but it had the same sensor and the IQ was about the same.

Still.

It was Canon's Entry level DSLR.

The T4i is s step or 3 above the T3i and T2i (t2i and t3i were the same except for the articulating screen), as it has the sensor that the 5D2 had I believe.

But it's Still Canon's entry level camera.
It is what it is.

The 18mp t2,3,4i are all great high resolution cameras.
Put a 70-200 IS II on any one of them and you will see.

Well it's not quite the 5D2 sensor, but the T4i is definitely a capable body

Actually, I believe it is the Digic 4 like the 5D2.
Am I wrong?

That is the processor, that is not the sensor.

It can't have been.. the XSi was still out then, and the T2i wasn't meant to replace it, but the next model up..the T1i.
