I have both the 100 2.8 and 85 1.8, and while there are some obvious differences, it's pretty much a wash which lens you pick to shoot something at f/4. Both perform great although the 100 2.8 is quite a bit slower to AF but has a bit less CA on high contrast areas (like chrome).

Basically, I use my 100 2.8 for macro and product photography only, and 85 1.8 for the rest, but sometimes I only have the 100 with me and don't really feel like I NEED the 85.

Some of my lenses focus beyond infinity...!

If you are using fullformat dslr I think you should , sharpness is good enough to crop if you need to zoom a little bit post shoot. And you'll have more depth of field with wide aperture of course. Bokeh is much more beautiful with 1.8 aperture

I only have crop body. do you think i will just use my 50mm to act like 85 and keep the 100 for longer rich when needed?

Yes 50mm 1.4 will act like 85mm on crop but will never acheveid as good performance, DOF, sharpness as the canon 85mm 1.8 does on full format because it's already cropped on your dslr. The 100mm is good for macro of course but again, not the greatest DOF.

^^ Nice shots, geeky, but maybe fix the skin tones in the first one! She looks like a corpse, other than the left side of her face.

I'm considering this lens just for the hell of it.

yeah I'm pretty sure I forgot to convert the profile to sRGB before uploading it but she likes it a lot so I'm leaving it for now until it bugs me

your fault guys, i bought the lens because of your super sharp images. coming tomorrow can't wait. also order the canon 28mm f1.8 to compliment with it the wide category.

I discovered this lens just a week ago, bought it two days after. Dunno why I never came across before, totally incredible lense for the price.
