I got the "talkn' to" after a 1D purchase. Well, actually the "talk" came when she saw me cleaning two cameras, instead of the one she new I owned. I had it shipped to work...

Now, I actually converse with her now, and always get the green light after a minor talk.

Slightly off topic; a coworker and friend was giving me grief about my photographic equipment; "Just how many cameras and lenses do you need to take one picture? Do you really need all of those thousand-dollar-lenses?" I went in for the kill: "True, but exactly how many guitars do you own, Paul?" He dropped his head in utter defeat and sputtered "19..."

Jason C

Touché! Well done, man.

I guess I am a lucky one. Every time I wanted to buy a new toy, the wife always said: Go ahead, you enjoy photography!

My wife loves me and wants me to be happy. She knows all my equipment and what it cost. When my car is paid off next year I'm getting a used 500mm f/4 and better camera (the 7D MkII should be out by then).

I never had any trouble because to her eyes, a lens is a lens and a camera is a camera. She just doesn't see any difference between the 30D, the 7D and the 5DMkIII. And when she sees the 24LII, she thinks it's the 17-40 I bought 6 years ago.
But boy, if she saw the bills, she'd kill me instantly ! That's why I keep them all hidden in a safe. ;)
She probably knows all this stuff is worth a lot of money, but as she likes the pictures that I take, she doesn't get too angry.
Except when we're on vacation and I carry around a 15 kg Lowepro backpack...

To be fair, she actually lets me get away with a lot. The best news is that I've managed to get her into photography (the bad news is that she probably has a better eye for it than me).

We did our first 'wildlife' shoot recently (essentially a zoo) and she asked if she could grab our cheap (£300) 70-300 (I bought a cheap one as it's not something I use often). She's now talking about getting a second telephoto so that we can both take pics in that environment.

I'm slowly trying to introduce her to the concept of a 70-200 f2.8 IS II with a 2x TC. Obviously it's a bit short without the TC, and the TC of course makes the image quality 'really bad', so you just use the 70-300 dear and I'll struggle along with this 70-200 piece of cr*p. *cough* ;)

The same here. My wife is a fine artist who started doing photography very recently. While technically I am better than her, she is way better than me in framing, composition, colors, etc. I am trying to learn from her.

Wife or Jedi?

Me: Sweetheart they have the new Canon 5D Mk3. Let’s go take a look.
My wife: [with a small wave of her hand] You don't need to see this camera.
Me: We don't need to see this camera.
My wife: This isn’t the shopping we’re looking for.
Me: This isn’t the shopping we're looking for.
My wife: Let’s go choose some curtains.
Me: We must go and choose so curtains.
My wife: Move along.
Me: Yes. Let’s move along... move along.

... Jedi wives are able to influence the weak willed.

Totally classic, I'm going to have to show my wife this one.

I have a seperate stash that I keep from my side work, that I use to buy my stuff from so it doesnt come out of the checkbook..:D. She gives me a hard time (after she sees it) but knows if the money is needed in the checkbook, I will dip in my stash to cover....;)

We've been married for 38 years now so we have worked out how to take turns with our hobbies. My wife is also very artistic and has a great eye for composition. She often assists me when I'm out shooting. That and the fact that I'm color blind, so she's my lifesaver when it comes to PP.

We both have expensive tastes so we don't buy very many things, but when we do, the tab can be high. We are waiting for some investments to come through and we both have nice wish lists. ;)

Was going to wait to buy the 70-300L until I could pay for all of it outright, but there's an airshow in town this weekend so dumped half of it on the credit card. Now I just have to make it through two more weeks without Wifey seeing the CC bill.

BTW, if you've been waiting to buy a 70-300L, the prices will drop soon because I just paid full retail for one. Always happens to me.:o

Did I not say this would happen??? Dammit. I order it yesterday from Amazon for $1399 and today Adorama drops the price to $1259 (external link). I KNEW this would happen.
