agreed. so, everyone that goes pretty much prime only.. do you find it annoying to have to change focal lengths a lot? I'm kind of a nerd like that and will take a second lens with me in my cargo pocket to somewhere even if it's just to be able to take a couple pics with that lens.

I"m also guessing that once you start only using primes, you start learning how to deal with what you have with the room you have

I'm not prime only but I have had this lens glued to my camera for over a week and have seen no need to switch except occasionally when I see a far away shot. I don't miss anything, just my crew having fun.

I'm looking to buy this lens. I love the photos you guys are sharing and it fits nicely in my price range. I have found it at Digital Rev (external link) for $409, free ship. Any better deals out there?

finally finally i'll be getting my copy next week. for those of you who have AF issues (front/back) what do you do? just manually focus? mine supposedly doesn't have issues.. but i've heard they can develop issues with time :o

do you guys use a uv filter with this? any recommendations? I think this takes the same filter as my 10-20 so I guess I might spring for a nicer one and a CPL possibly

Only a CPL for me. Actually a 77mm CPL with a step down ring for it to work. But nonetheless, I only use CPLs these days.

thanks. hmm what is a stepdown ring? is it because the lens is too close to the threading and would get scratched?

No, it's a piece of aluminum that lets me use a larger CPL for smaller filter sizes. That way, I only have one CPL. Might have multiple rings, but those are lighter and a HECK of a lot cheaper than multiple circular polarizers.

omg, the step down ring itself is $70?! How much are the polarizing filters you're buying? is it not worth buying cheap filters for like $10 on Amazon or ebay?

also, can you just rotate the CPL and use it for low light indoors? if i recall correctly, that still made it too dark for indoor use when I used one for my 17-50

I usually get cheap ones from a "local" camera store, around 8-12 bucks. You can always filter that search to go from low to high. :)

My single CPL is $150.

Also, I'd just take the CPL off. They do take away some light, so why even have it on when you don't need it?

hmm... dngphoto, if you don't mind me saying--I think you might have focusing issues with your 30mm? It could be just me...but in most of your photos in this series, I'm having a hard time seeing clearly where your focal point was. a lot of these lenses are supposed to have issues as i'm sure you've heard, so it could just be a placebo effect to me...no offense.

You get what you pay for. Also, not sure where you are getting your step down rings cause mine works great for 2.50.... I don't use cheapo filters for the same reason I don't take pictures through car windows... Why put cheap flare prone glass in front of a decent lens. Your setup can only be as good as the weakest link (including the photographer :))

I agree, it seems a bit soft to me
