Hopefully this thread doesn't get deleted.

Like I said in the other thread, the price on the Canon 70-300mm f4-5.6L was going to drop, and it did. Adorama now has it for $1259. (external link)

Nice, but I'm holding out for f2.8 and IS. (hopefully to see price drop soon)

Damn, really wish I didn't just pay $1500 for it a month ago...

Do I have to pay return shipping if I get a dud lens? (Amazon's free shipping label might not hold for Adorama...)

I believe if you get a dud - it will be replaced, if you just want to return - you pay for original and return shipping.

Damn. I want this (again). One of my favorite lenses. Just sprung for a 90mm TS-E, so I probably can't justify this one too right now.

Is this price better than the hot deal offered last Christmas on this lens? (I believe it was around that time, and Adorama was the seller.)

I'm really thinking about pulling the trigger on this.

I believe this is the best I have seen. I purchased it about a year ago for 1499.00 and loved it at that price. Sadly, I couldn't keep it for the long term, but at this price - jump on it.

It was under 1300 before.
I can't remember if it was 1299 or what, but something like this *has* happened before with this lens at Adorama.

However, I'm thinking this is technically as low as it has ever been...

This is the lowest I have ever seen. It was over $1300 during Christmas. It went down to $1299 a few months ago for a short time at Adorama.

That must have been it then.

Yeah, CPW's chart shows it at or just below $1300 for a day or two in May. Not sure how long this sale will last.

I'm seriously agonizing over this. Gah!!

Reviews seem to be mostly positive, but there *have* been reports of a few duds, and my luck always dictates I'll find one...

Plus, the 70-200 series is always a temptation. However, I know for a fact I will greatly miss the 300mm, as I always shoot long...

If I can shoot this lens *wide open* at 300mm and have it be *considerably* sharper than my 70-300 non-L under the same specifications, I think this is a no-brainer.

However, that difference needs to be rather *big.* Build quality and all that mumbo-jumbo doesn't matter a whole lot to me. Wide open IQ at 300 *does.*
