You struck a nerve, it seems. Lots of folks in the same boat. :)

My usually only encourages me to buy what I need. But after I showed her what I am considering she said, " Well you can sell your vette!"

The problem with buying what I need is that there is an ever moving target. Early on I thought I would be great with just a crop, 50 prime, and the basic zooms. Now many expensive primes later I am into stuff I never ever thought about starting out.... :) and to think I used to cringe at a 20 dollar filter.... Hehe. Then I discovered the lee system :)

My parents couldn't believe how much the 5D2 and 70-200L cost me when I told them.... I wonder what they would say if I told them about the 200L IS price :p

Same here. I used to wonder how on earth I was going to afford $300 for a lens. Now I think of ways to come up with $2k+ for a TS-E or $3k for a 5D MkIII.

I have only begun my journey and the wife is generally pretty lenient with my spending...generally. She was a little shell shocked when I bought the 70-200L and now I am easing her into me getting a 24-70L. I see storms on the horizon though...lol.

Mine were shocked by how much I paid for the 40D 17-85 kit four years ago so I stopped telling them about my purchases after that especially when I am a pure hobbyist :D

Haha! Good luck. I recently tried to explain to my wife that I traded a 24L for a 24tse... she wasn't tracking why I needed to spend money for a lens of the same focal length that is MF. She is very sweet and tried to look interested :)

I just read your thread to my wife. "Don't get any ideas" was all she snarled:cry:

Haha - likewise. "But I really think the 35L would be a perfect addition to my collection..."

I'm secretly stocking the garage with food, drinks, a small TV, and a sleeping bag, for when I jump on the 5DIII + 24-105
