Pretty much every shot I do with this lens is at f/8 anyways, so I never really feel the need for a speedy lens.

these are daylight photos right? Hmm... is this for sharpness? I'm about to buy this lens today locally I think-- is f/8 the optimal aperture for most day light shots like this? Thanks

I'd say I'm at f/8 and above 90% of the time during daytime hours. At night, I'm on a tripod mostly, so f/8-11 is where I live.

thanks for the help... I just got my sigma 10-20 f4-5.6 and I am dumbfounded at how much better it is than the tamron. Wrote a little article on it here: http://www.flickr.com …iscuss/72157631184404044/ (external link)

what is your guys' thoughts about using a filter with this lens? i mainly have used one for protecting the lens.. it seems like the curvature of the lens wont' allow a filter--it's really close..

any recommendations?

I don't use UV filters with any of my lenses (my preference), but I do use CPL filters with them, including this one. I've had no problems with using a filter on this lens at all. I would recomend that if you do get a filter (CPL or otherwise) for use with this lens, that you get one of the slim models. This will help prevent the filter from causing any vignetting. Hope this helps. Oh, and for a recomended brand, B+W......very good quality.

The photos I shot a few posts above were with a cheapo UV filter, not sure what brand. I'm saving the money for a B&W CPL :D

i see there are B+W CPL filters (slim) for like $80....and ones for over $200..... are you saving up for the one that's like $80? Never thought I'd be spending this much on a cpl, but I guess I can use the same one for my sigma 50 1.4 when it arrives... and get step adapters to fit my other size lenses.

Still suffering from Hurricane Isaac, no power and spotty phone internet. Was able to edit this on my laptop and upload a low res copy of this to FB. Not sure if everyone are able to see this, but thought I'd give it a shot.
