I took a three mile hike and made a long belly crawl to a flock of Skimmers and Terns last weekend. I'm still working on the Terns but here's a few of the Skimmers enjoying a little time off between feeds.

Just gorgeous, love the colors, the subject isolation and especially the low perspective (which really makes this shine). Spot on all ways round.

Beautiful, Steve. Great shots, well worth the effort (easy for me to say ;) )

As always, Steve, great shots of these somewhat comical-looking birds.

Super views of these beauties Steve!
Really like the setting and background too. It's perfect to make these guys stand out very nicely.

Superb shots Steve! 3 miles and crawl? I'd happily do it if I can get half decent of these shots :)

Wonderful shots, Steve! I've never seen them not on the wing before.

Super series of a bird I've never seen in real life. So until that happens I'll have to just reach into the monitor to touch the bird in the third photo.

Thanks so much everyone for all of the nice comments. The Skimmer numbers are down this year so I was happy to find this group of 8 hanging out with the gulls and Terns. The tricky part was waiting for a few of them to stroll away from the others so I could isolate and compose a less cluttered shot. Ordinarily at this time of year the Skimmer flocks would be between 100 and 200 birds, this summer I've only seen pairs, single birds and this small group.

wow and wow Steve, love these!
Shame the numbers are down, hopefully nothing too serious, and maybe for some strange reason, they have decided to go elsewhere.
