...are you using this on a "lapdancer" too?

Yup! A Sony Vaio PCG-71312L (if that helps). I don't know it's specs, but it is a pretty decent machine. It has no issues with running this program. One of the reasons I switched over to Vegas from Premiere was because a while back I went to a local Broadcast TV trade show and there at the Sony booth they had a Vegas set up and editor there to talk to folks about it. The guy showed me an older laptop (IBM Thinkpad boat anchor running Win 95 or XP) with Vegas Pro on it. And it worked well. They beauty of Vegas is that it isn't the resource Hog that other PC based NLE programs are.

I've been using Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 Production Suite for more than 8 months now and have never seen the "Green Screen of Death." It seems to work pretty darn well.

Now that I've said that...

We have been running Vegas Pro 11 on a Windows 7/64/12gig and never had a green screen hang up, but Vegas will from time to time lock the machine up hard to which nothing but a power down will clear.

I have noticed it only happens with long 30 minutes or more timelines.

The solution we applied as it happens so rarely is to just autosave more frequently.

...thanks for the feedback, my concern is from watching reviews on youtube is that the video will be choppy during editing while running the program and might freeze up during rendering .

good to know that you're not having any of these issues using a similar setup as mine, once again, thank you

Choppy video during editing is usually due to having the monitor setting set to auto, you can crank it up in quality but doing so may slow down the machine and doing so is really unnecessary as barring any actual frame/timeline problems the choppiness will not be present in the rendered product.

For what it is worth Vegas is probably one of the most stable and reasonably priced NLE's on the market. Also unlike so many NLE's out there Vegas is not a resource hog. For field editing we run Vegas Pro 9 without a itch on Itronix GoBook III’s which are older Intel Pentium M’s with 4 gig of RAM.

Well the video is not as smooth in the preview mode while editing. That's just a given. After you work with it long enough you'll understand what is normal. While in edit mode, the preview window is only running the video at half "power" if you will. And that setting is also changeable if needed. That has no effect on the final outcome of the video. It is still smooth enough to accurately edit videos. It just takes a bit to get used to.

And as others have said, being a long time windows user, I always save frequently. ;)

...thanks wayne, it's a relief to know that it will work on with what i have for simple editing. ok, maybe one more question, but will the Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 Production Suite allow me to color correct and adjust my video to "attempt" in achieving this look? or do i have to get vegas pro

sample video of what i'm trying to achieve (external link)

or like this one, not exactly the same but you get the idea

can i achieve this with vegas movie studio or do i need vegas pro (external link)

Yes, that program will do basically most of what the Pro version will do. It's amazingly powerful for the price.

So sounds like Vegas is a favorite. The latest version was just released - Sony Movie Studio platinum 12 (64 bit) - and is on sale at Best Buy, only $89.99 for the suite version (incl dvd architect and sound forge, reg $129.99). Seems like a no brainer to me, yet I'm still wondering if there are any compelling arguments for Premiere Elements. Anyone have one?

Thanks in advance.

...check B&H, it might not include the other things you mentioned but it's sold for $56(out the door with shipping)

B&h = no brainer to me !

edit: it's for version 11
