I'm a some what new photographer and am trying to improve just like most other photographers out there. I'd like some CC on these pictures below. They were taken with a rebel xsi and 50mm 1.8 aka the nifty fifty. Thanks for taking the time out to view my pictures!

You really think that? After taking a few more looks at them they all look properly exposed to me and don't seem like they need fill light.....

nice photos in terms of focus and exposure and such but you need to change your camera's picture style to increase contrast a couple notches and saturation one notch. You have a color cast, a grayish color overlying your photos that contrast would help. You could fix them also by adjusting "levels" and in some of your shots, like the first one, you have some background highlights that could be reduced in "highlights and shadows" to make them more attractive. If you allow me to I will edit the first photo and show you what I mean and see if you like the results :)

Brightness/Contrast may be off on your monitor. Mine is calibrated and she looks a little dark.

They are a little dark and some of them seem a little soft. In picture 2, she looks like you pissed her off or something lol. Some post processing would help alot too.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I agree, after looking at my pics again they did look pretty flat and lacked contrast. I processed them a little bit and here are the re edits. I'm also thinking about getting a flash for fill light to pair up with my 50mm 1.8 and the primes that I get in the future.

Would an external 430ex ii flash (perhaps with a diffuser or soft box attached to it) be a good choice for fill light in outdoor/indoor settings when it comes to portraits of individuals and group shots over the on camera flash that's on my xsi? Thanks for the advice and critique and I hope that everyone is having a great week.

Set your white balance to "shade." That should help warm them up, too.

Much nicer with the edits, but I would trash the second pic. Not flattering for her at all.
