Not only is it free of -any- distortions of any kind, its also so sharp its only limited by the laws of physics... All from a lens thats 60nm thick, as in a literal paper thin lens..

Very fascinating stuff

Can we get some 400% crops of some sample shots in here?

For reals though, this is pretty cool stuff. I wonder if something like this will ever be implemented in conventional photography. I wonder how you'd focus. I mean besides changing your distance from the subject.

actually 400% crops might actually be the new 100% crops in 10 years...

Very cool find, and a very cool innovation. Though with wafer thin glass, I'd sure hate to give it even a slight bump  .... I'm clumsy ;)

The camera stores would love that though. You would actually need a UV for lens protection.

I've always dreamed of a 2000mm, 2oz. , 2 inch long lens. I wonder if they can bounce the light back and forth to get the 2 inches? I'd settle for a 1000mm. :)

I'm not sure this would apply to photo stuff. If you look, it looks like it is designed to be used on single mode fiber. Looks like the material needs tuned to the frequency that will be used. For photo, the lens must focus a wide range of frequencies well. So I'm not sure this applies. But maybe.

You are correct of course, But it still could have applications in conventional photography..

Just different wavelengths of light thats all! :)

It's a DO lens... Canon is the only lens manufacturer that I know that is developing this technology (kind of like Mazda and the Wankel (rotary) engine.

Also, keep in mind that a laser produces a very very narrow wavelength "bandwidth" and only 3 beams (R G B) are required to recreate all colors...

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!
