a few from last weekend's East Coast Surfing Championship in Virginia Beach

(XSi /450D) and 100-400

Very nice work. The 100-400 always impresses if there is enough light.

Good set, like them all, but #1 edges out the other two by a hair for colors (nice board), wave height, and vertical action. Only thing that I can't figure out are those wavy halos surrounding the front point/nose of the board - is that water?

once again my processing skills (or lack thereof) come into play!
These were heavy crops (really needed 500mm), I had to bump up the exposure without blowing out the whites, when I 'painted" the board it apparently wasn't a very good job!

edit: I redid that first pic, cropping it even tighter

300mm is more than enough reach to shoot surfing w/o the convertor.

sure, I was there for four hours and got plenty of surf shots but I spent most of my time in the beach volleyball area !
