For those of you who come up the Owens Valley to get to Mammoth Lakes or Yosemite, I decided to stop at a few spots along the way to take some snapshots. That way, when you get lonely for the eastern Sierras you can just look at this posting.

Bishop pasture.

This is an interesting area because the reddish hill in the center is a cinder dome from earlier volcanic action. Then the Sierras eroded more making a sloped area around the cinder dome. Then another lava flow came along on top of the eroded area, going around the old cinder dome and spread out across the valley.

Great series and I like that you have given a location of the pics and the history of the first. Wish more landscapers would do this.

One of my favorite places. I love the drive on 395. Great series.

Been lots of places in this world, but Hwy 395 is a virtual treasure. Oh yeah, your photos do it justice. KUDOS.

That's a great area. On my uncalibrated monitor, the last two look to benefit from some contrast adjustment. Good work.

Beautiful, you really captured the feel of the Owens Valley which is hard to do as it's so vast of an area, and you got clear air which is always a plus. That drive is where I find my peace, wish I had a set like this to reflect on, we are always in a hurry to get to Mammoth that we don't stop to capture the vistas of 395.

Thanks for the comments everyone. The Owens Valley is one of those places that many of us race through going to Mammoth, and are too impatient going north and too tired coming south to stop and take pictures.
