Help! 5D MK II not turning on!

I picked up my camera last night and turned it on, but nothing. I removed the battery grip and replaced the door and tried just one battery. Nothing. I tried the other battery. Nothing. I charged both batteries and got a few minutes of operation out of it then left it for 5 minutes. Came back and guess what? Nothing! Tried cycling batteries and power on/off a dozen times. Nothing.

I have two weddings this month!!! The first next weekend!!! My backup camera is a 400D (Rebel XTI).

HELP!! How can I fix this?

Have you tried connecting it to the computer?

Have you tried rebooting it?

I hope you get that fixed! I am sorry you are going through this hard time

Don't worry yourself too much. Sounds like the batteries simply need replacing. How old are they?

It's a sign to upgrade to 5D Mark III.

That's not helpful and in my given situation, not even funny.

Could it be just the LCD not coming on? Try pressing the Info button.

You're a wedding photographer and your only back-up is a 400D? Really? Where I come from, we have camera stores that rent gear, including 5D2's. I suggest you consider this while your 5D2 is off to Canon for repair. When it comes back, consider investing in a 5D3 and use your 5D2 as a back-up. This is serious and I do believe helpful. If people are counting on you for their once in a lifetime photos, you should come prepared. 'nuff said.

Did you pick up your camera used or brand new?

Hi, Barry. I am sorry to hear about your problems. It sounds like it could be that your batteries have died or you have a problem within your camera. Anyway i have a 7D which has the same battery as the 5Dii and you are welcome to come over and try my battery to see if it is indeed the batteries that are the problem. I don't have a 5D but if you need it i could lend you my 40D (and 3 batteries) to get you out of trouble for the time being. I am in Symonston so shoot me a PM if you want to try this out.

I've been nice and polite to thousands of people over 30 forums for over a decade. I've had a gutful of playing mr nice guy to people who behave like this with arrogant comments based on no knowledge of a person's situation.

Any kid can buy a DSLR with a kit lens from Best Buy and call themselves photography experts now adays, what do you expect

I've had this same problem with a 5D II before, I was able to get it working by connecting it to the computer and running the EOS software. Alas, if it just won't turn on then their may be a short/open where the battery connects or one of the parts blew on the board, like an amp or power coverter.

I did this to the letter. It booted up and I reset the clock and thought I had it solved. BUT

I turned it off and when I tried to turn it on again...same thing..nothing.

I pulled the battery out and put it back in a few times and it occasionally turns on, but once I turn it off, I have to go through the whole procedure again. Looks like I'll have to find a place in Canberra that will rent me one.
