I've recently been asked to shoot some fashion and glamour shots. I do not own a studio or lighting with the exception of one 430EX. Can Glamour be shot outdoors or should it be done in a studio with lighting?

Glamour can work outside when the styling matches the environment -like a Cowgirl style with jeans shorts and sheer tops. It also works when shooting swimwear in a glam oiled up and wet style. Plain lingerie outside rarely works well because it doesnt make sense.

Studios and strobe lighting can easily be rented in the Detroit area. Hotel rooms are other obvious locations for glam shoots and you can often shoot there with just window light. With your 430 on a stand with umbrella and synch chord and skills, you have a start on indoor lighting equipment.

I shoot glamour outdoors all the time. Check out a couple of my portfolios:

and there's plenty light indoors in the right location. Hotel room with large windows or even your or her house. You might need a white sheet as diffuser and y our flash will come in handy. A couple cheap reflectors and you can create stunning images. A whole light setup is nice, but by no means necessary. Check out for example the book "The Luminous Portrait" for lots of examples, I think the author never uses strobes if I recall correctly.
