Hey 24-70'ers,
I was taking some shot last night of the stars and noticed that when I pointed it up the lens would not stay at 24mm. It would sink to about 28 then ooze to about 32mm. No way would it stay at 24 no matter what I tried. Today I pointed it down and had the issue in reverse. It would stay at 35mm but whilst slowly making it wider, when it reached about the 32mm mark it dropped to 24mm wih a clunk.

Does yours do this too, or does mine know how I should framing things better?

Great lens - works wonders even on my old 30D (on which all these were shot)

Hi again,
Kinda feel a bit embarrassed that I've asked a foolish question  I know there's a lot of weight in the lens and it stands to reason that gravity can grab a hold, but throughout the rest of the range it's as solid as a rock. Would someone please mind letting me know if the creep I have is normal.
Thanks.

Swoffa - That's an important question. I really hope someone answers it for you. I don't do astrophotography so I don't have an answer. I have taken photos at fairs with it mounted on a tripod but never at an angle where the lens crept inside the element.

Thanks Phil,
It's not so much linked to astrophotography, nor in the process of actually taking an image, but just whether others experience the creep.
If someone(and maybe a couple of others) wouldn't mind just pointing their lens up and setting it to 24mm and see if it creeps or not that would be great.

Perhaps I should have just asked this in the first place instead of causing any confusion. :o

^^ Swoffa....mine does not creep whether it's on the upright/downright position. It stays on the 24/28/35/50 & 70 as the way it should be. Hope this helps...

Thanks. I use smart objects, and do "replace contents" in Photoshop. This breaks exif I've just been told to someone I gave my template. Not sure how to get around it... but not bothered either. ;) Sold my 85mm a few months ago.
