Hey, i just bought the nifty fifty not too long ago and I just came across a great deal that I am able to buy the sigma really cheap. I shoot outdoors mostly at local shows/events.

Do you think I should sell the 50 and put it torwards the Sigma?

Get the Sigma, keep the 50. You'll only get 75 selling the 50 anyway.

I only picked up the 50mm for just over 80 bucks new so it wouldnt be really a loss so much. I wouldnt have a use for it really if I were to get the Sigma. I was just wondering which is a better lens? Sharper and quicker.

Obviously the Sigma. That's why it's worth 4-5x as much.

The Sigma 30 is a freaking champ. Outdoors, it may be a little short but indoor shows, it works wonders. I would say to keep the 50 and get the 30. If you're outdoors as well, most likely the 55-250 would work fine to replace the 50 if you're shooting in the daytime.

Just be careful, if the deal looks too good to be true... but I love my 30 1.4 :) I do agree that for outdoor shows you may lack the distance unless you can get pretty close.

I am able to test the lens out fully on my body before purchasing the lens. My problem is i can never get too close. The reason i am looking at the 30 is because of the FOV. At car meets or indoor shows itl be harder to get a full side shot of a car when people are constantly walking by. If I even have the room to back up that much.

I would think your 10-20 or 18-55 would be better for car shows. Wide is what you want. 30 is still not wide.

Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 is, imo; the best car show lens on crop. At many indoor car shows lighting is sub par; hence 2.8 is nice(Same as 2k+ 14mm L prime), and you can go *wide* to get entire car in on a crowded show floor.

Outside or if you need more reach, then comes debate..

18mm f3.5 with IS works nearly as well versus 16mm f2.8. 10mm f4 and handholding at 1/15 shutter is pretty low light, too.

It's kind of crazy how slow you can hand hold ultra wides. @11mm f/2.8; take a few shots to be sure; and I've found I can get 1/2 second shutter speeds consistently sharp. Great for museums.

Yep, all that needs to be said pretty much.

The Sigma is a nicer lens, but for the price the 50 is a keeper even just as an emergency lens. I have 35L and Sigma 85, and have still used the Canon 50 once or twice.

The Sigma 30 is a very highly regarded lens. Don't think you'd regret it if you like primes.
