1d mk4 + 5d III with the ops $8k budget. 1dx doesn't cover landscape as well as the 5d3 or other resolution applications. Put the change towards glass (always need more glass)

I use a 5D2 for manual focus / slow stuff and the 1D4 for things that need autofocus. I think my cameras are not the limiting factor in the quality of my images.... of course I like new toys and If my lens set was the same as the OP's, it would the 5D3 / 1D4 that they're using.

Fwiw, joining CPS will drop the price of the 1DX quite a lot.

From the perspective of the best money can buy, the single biggest reason for considering a 1Dx would that it appears to have about a stop better noise than the 5D3.... but only in truly extreme conditions. If you were after the ultimate then, it would be a 1D4 / 1Dx combo... or perhaps two 1Dx and a Kenko t/c.

Several cameras and more glass than I will admit to.

I mainly shoot portraits but I only have a T2i and a 50mm 1.2L. But before the year is out I'm hoping to get a 5D Mark III and convert my T2i into an infrared.

Get a digital medium format camera.

Now this is an interesting suggestion. Looked at these a few weeks back but couldn't completely understand the wide range of digital backs offered by sone one like Leaf or Phase-One other to say how much money do you have, we'll find a way to spend it on a sensor for you. What aspect ratio would you choose 6 x 4.5 or 6 x 6 or something else?

When I calculate the number of pixels on a 6 x 4.5 I get something like 9000 x 7200 = 64.8 MPixels if it had the same pixel density as a 5d Mark III of 1920 per 1.2 cm (5760 x 3840). Don't know if I've seen that much. If it where a 1Dx style sensor it would be 8640 x 6480 = 56 MPixels. So how many megapixels is considered a top tier medium format?

Can you please explain how this is possible, noisejammer?

1DX + 1D IV, if megapixel is not an issue - 1Dx for daily abuse and 1D IV for a little extra reach and F8 autofocus. Interchangeable batteries are convenient.

Could you explain this? I belong to CPS but wasn't aware of any purchase discount.

Thank

Never had or used any 1D, but I really like my combo ... 7D & 5DMKII and/or 5DMKII & 5DMKII ... depending on what I will be shooting! :D

Suppose the future will be a pair of 5DMKIII's or its replacement but what I have now, I like very much! (just need more time to use them!!! :( )

I have the 7D/5D3 and love the way these two bodies work with my lens selection.

I need to improve, and then I may do something like this. The only issue with this is, will I still be alive when I improve enough... ;)

just a few of my thoughts...

I shoot 2 7Ds. My profit to gear cost ration is pretty high.
