Olympus: Great ideas but designed by people who did too many drugs when they were younger, it's all there but not quite functional.
Panasonic: Genuine engineers with some clever ways of doing things, often new and very progressive. If you must buy a Micro 4/3 it has to be a Panasonic, not an Olympus.
Canon: In general unless it's full blown SLRs they have no real competitors. What they build works and works well. The logic is often flawless and they only really cock things up when they get complacent. Every time they drop the ball its because they didn't have to try and couldn't be bothered. I suspect the EOS M will be lovely, it's the same sensor as the 7D no? APS-C and 18MP, great sensor. There has to be at least several reasons that you'll want the fourth version though, no way they'll give you everything, they don't have to.

In all honesty for that type of camera, the 7D sensor, and equivalent 35mm f/2 lens and Canon menus is 99% there, it should just be wrapped in a Fuji body...

Interesting about Olympus. The OM-D reviews very well, and they have a good range of 4/3 cameras that are compact. Panasonic don't seem to be so big on compact 4/3 cameras. We'll see what Photokina says.

I wouldn't buy a Canon now, they let me down for too many years.

Oly do ok mtf bodies.

Panasonic's big downfall is that they are an electronics company not an optics company.

well no camera is perfect. the Oly has got a EVF and some people will never one, some don't care. the AF may be off 1 / 10 shots or the menu may be hard to figure out.

But even canon isn't perfect. Of late they don't seem to push the market. they seem to be late to the market with a mirrorless camera

No but if it doesn't work first time considering I nearly spent the cash on a Hasselblad instead I'll lose my patience quickly! Actually haven't taken a shot yet, been using the D800 all day...

Not sure what you mean? If I'm missing a quip or if you're referring to my MkI 5D? It's gonna be good finally going out doing jobs with two FF bodies lets put it that way.

Panasonic's big downfall is that they are an electronics company not an optics company.

Which is why they work with Leica. IMO many of the Panasonic lenses are better than the Olympus offerings for M43.

Correct. They're complacent. Why try harder when they can still make cockups and get away with it? Shame really...

Cheers, Dave.

I was talking about the first shot taken, which for most people is a pointless photo of something that's typically not that interesting around the house.

Now if only I could upgrade to a nikon and not it cost me a penny or two.

Nice - welcome to the club...
We had to get a second one in a bit of an emergency on the weekend right before our wedding :/ A bit sooner than we had wanted  but it was good to have the reassurance after the mk2 decided it wasnt liking CF cards and its shutter count is now at 150,000...

Will get the CF card thing looked at, and maybe replace the shutter and flick it off...

A bunch of Canon bits and pieces.

What's the story behind the picture

I took the youngest two boys to see Jeff, Murray, Anthony & Greg in concert. Took the camera along to see what sort of settings you'd need to get anything like reasonable shots in really funny lighting. Must say there's not a lot worth veiwing, let alone posting...

Is that disguise code for the wee-glays?

They make U2 look like a bunch of kids playing the local clubs for $100 a night and some free beer.
