It’s the prices. 15% of retail for a used lens is just crazy. I’ve been buying new, or off Craig's List.

I agree 100% with this statement, gear priced right still sells.

Sold my 430EXII in about 5 minutes.

Perhaps posting at the right time helps. But I agree with all the previous posts. If its the right price, it will sell...quickly at that.

Another thing I noticed is the variance in price. We have people selling newer date code lenses for a fair amount market price (-15-25% off its original retail price) and there are others selling their older lenses for the same amount of the newer ones, if not more.

Also, some people are too lazy to post their pics. There's a solid chance your stuff will not sell if you don't post pictures. I know thats stating the obvious but there's a lot of members here who still doesn't post pictures of the item being sold.

I don't know, I just sold my 85L on Amazon. I've had my best luck selling there.

Me too, I used to sell on here like crazy but have had much better luck on Amazon in the last year.

Do you get a higher price there because the buyers don't know the used market and are comparing your price to the new one on Amazon? Just currious if your net amount is the same as if you sold it here.

All things will sell at a given price. Equilibrium effect.

I was looking at a Canon 100mm macro L lens- Canon has it with rebates at $929 and there was one listed on the Sale area for $850 if I remember correctly.

For that little of a difference of money, I would rather buy it new with a credit card and get my airline points. Maybe others would jump on a deal like that but for me to buy preowned I need an incentive that would make me pull the trigger.

There is no right or wrong as everyone is entitled to price their wares at. But I do honestly believe it is far better to price it right at the get go, then to go for a higher price and end up knocking it down over time. Just my opinion.

I sell every day (not cameras) and this is what I have observed.

I get that, I was asking specifically about their Amazon experiences as I have never sold on there.

Definitely not a higher price, same at best.

But it goes the same in reverse as well, a few months ago I picked up a newer style Sigma 30 used (and it was really mint) for $300 from amazon...typically they are way more here and on fredmiranda

As stated, it is the unrealistic pricing. Recently I pm'd friendly advice to a seller of Nikon gear. He was asking 200 under brand new for a D800. Ridiculous. He immediately dropped the price. Still too much.

I've sold thousands worth of gear here and the right price and making someone feel they are getting a deal is very important.

As to selling on amazon, never done it, don't know how, but the audience is only a million times what it is here, no?

it's a good time for selling if things are priced right. this week i sold an 85L and 1.4X TC on Amazon, both went for more than I see them sell for here.

Some of the things that I'm interested in used are just plain priced too high. Then you need to add shipping and possibly insurance. Adorama and B&H provide free shipping most of the time. By the time you add shipping and paypal charges to a used item your better off with new. For the difference in price you get a guarantee. Just my opinion!

I agree...If you want to sell, then price it realistically

I have to agree, the ask price is too high for used gear compared to where the other major online vendors are priced.

I have been watching for a 7D but the used pricing is approx $1000-1200 while a refurb from Canon, B&H, or Adorama is $1150. So why buy used unless the price is too good to pass up.

I just saw a lens that was 8% off of the new price.

It's been a while since I bought anything used. Very little incentive with all the good online deals at the big stores floating around.

Plus if you sell here at POTN and it's not "priced to sell" from the get go, it drowns in the thread never to be seen again. :p
