Just got mine this morning. Acutally found it on ebay through a dealer that got one copy sent to him and said he was "owed a lot of favors from Canon"...paid $2350 shipped fedex overnight. Already checked with Canon and it isn't grey market or obviously refurbished. Haven't gotten to actually "use" it yet, but initial impressions over my 3 24-70L's I had are -

Not much lighter but feels better in the hands. Not sure what everyone is on about with the plastic thing. It doesn't feel anywhere close to as cheaply made as the 100mm macro. It feels like the tank that the MK I was, without the "brick" look and feel.

For me, the zoom and focus feels better and closer to that of the 70-200 MK II. I really really am happy about this. Focus feels smooth and sturdy. Zoom feels tight right now but I like that. Gives me a little extra confidence that this one won't go down the road of creeping on me.

The 82mm filter thread gives it a beefy look (not that the other one didn't have that). I don't use filters so this isn't a problem for me.

Overall with looks and feel, I am REALLY pleased. It's a huge upgrade in that department and like I said, I had 3 of the MK I's. I'm not going to base it's performance on anyone else's review until I actually try it but I am sure it is just as amazing as everyone who has gotten their hands on one is saying.

Not sure if you meant 100L macro or regular one as barrel plastic looks exactly like 100L.

I meant the 100L, sorry. I have had it and didn't care for it. This though, doesn't feel the least bit cheaply made and it's far from "plasticy". Then again, the build on the 100L didn't bother and wasn't the reason I sold it. This is definitely a very well built and durable lens.

FYI: Adorama is shipping them today, but supposedly Canon has warned them of a low initial shipment.

It seems as though I was lied to. Customer service said they didn't show any shipment come in and obviously my order is still pending.

Found these two really good articles on LensRentals Blog Site through links on FredMirando.

The first is a resolution comparison and the second is a teardown analysis

http://www.lensrentals.com …he-canon-24-70-f2-8-mk-ii (external link)

His test show this has the best resolution at both 24mm and 70mm and great build.

No, you weren't lied to.

Let me try and describe what it's like when we receive a delivery...... We have a number of dock doors in shipping at our DC in NJ where USPS, UPSMI and Fed-Ex come in throughout the day with 53' trailers - FULL!! Sometimes we will have been notified what we can expect on board these trailers, other times not.

Until units have been removed from the trailer and physically scanned into our inventory, the CS staff on the 'phones have no way of knowing what is arriving and being re-stocked. They are also not in a position to read industry news regarding what we are expecting on any given day - they are too busy answering those 'phones!

If a customer calls to ask if we have an item in stock, the only point of reference is the computer system, which will only reflect what is already on the shelves - not what is sitting in the yard, even though 5 minutes later, we could be in an 'in stock' situation.

BTW this is also why an 'out-of-stock' email notification (which is sent via an automated system if we receive an order for something which isn't physically on the shelves) frequently may not reflect the reality that the item is simply waiting to go onto the shelves, a situation which can change from one hour to the next.

Thank you for the clarification. Hopefully the lens will ship out soon. I'm surprised that B&H got a full 2 day jump (so far) ahead of you guys in fulfilling pre-orders.
