If this were a Canon announcement people here would be drooling over the NEX6. This is the camera I have been waiting for. I own a NEX-5N and love it but I didn't want the huge MP sensor in the NEX-7. Now I can have my cake and it it too:-)

Canon should be ashamed!

Sony is kicking some serious butt at the moment with all their camera inventions and introductions. They are not afraid to think out of the box where Canon just holds on to the old.

Oh the shame .. Canon rakes in billions from gullible consumers, Sony loses billions but has out of the box cameras

Canon should be ashamed? Note that Sony has a patent. Canon can't just match Sony without either buying Sony sensors or making a new invention that gets around the Sony patent.

You think Canon want/like to have banding issues? You think Canon engineers aren't spending a lot of time trying to come up with some working alternative?

Just buying Sony sensors? Yes, I would very much like Canon to buy Sony sensors. But what should Canon then do with their current fabs? Just write them off, and kick the staff? What price do Canon need to set on new bodies with Sony sensors if they both have to pay money to Sony and reclaim the losses from their own sensor fabs? And even if Sony have ramped up sensor production, they can still not supply sensors to the rest of the world.

In the end, there are no easy solutions available to Canon.

I've pre-ordered the 6. It does seem pretty sweet, and I agree, if the EOS-M had a similar spec sheet it would've been like someone dosed the water supply around here with Viagra.

No reason for Canon to be ashamed, but they should get the feeling that they need to be a bit (or a lot) more innovative. For a while I thought they were just holding things back to be able to play the "one up" game on an as-needed basis. But I think I was giving them too much credit.

As for Sony, I really wish they would get off their lazy butts and do something. :) I've never like them and their aproach as a consumer electronics company, but I'm done holding that against them.

I don't mind Sony's out of the box thinking but they cripple themselves with their priorities. The NEX system seems to have the focus on bodies and the lens selection cripples sales, but atleast they are releasing 3 new lenses which helps them a lot!

Are they finally getting rid of the crap hotshoe for a conventional one on future cameras?? (Sony A99 has a conventional hotshoe)
Conventional hotshoe, a few more lenses to choose from, and EVF...and I'm looking at NEX cameras a bit harder now.

Proprietary OS instead of Android, amirite?

Sony just can't get out of their own way.

Do Sony's cameras still have the dinky hot shoe or have they adopted the standard yet?
