I recently upgraded my system and then opted for Windows 8 Professional Installationl

After OS Installation, I installed Canon DPP, Zoom Brower and EOs Utility Softwares from my 5D Mark 3 Software Disk.

When I connected my 7D and 5D Mark 3 to Computer to download images using EOs Utility, it failed to detect the Camera and most of the options were greyed out.

Tried 7D Firmware Upgrade, that too did not worked using EOs Utility as Software failed to open EOS Remote Control Screen.

Can anyone help me.

If it's not recognized natively I would imagine we'll have to wait until a later version of EOS Utility comes out with Windows 8 drivers. Since we have about a month before Windows 8 is officially released yet I would expect the Canon updates to come up right before or shortly after the release.

Did Windows itself detect it? It should have beeped and opened a window with a camera in it. If it didn't detect it, Windows just doesn't have drivers for it, which seems a bit strange.

Cable ok? Did you install all your USB drivers and chipset drivers? it sound more like there is no connection via the usb port than lack of support.

Yes, Windows Detects and open the Windows with options on how to open the Camera for images and other action and it also displays EOS Utility as one of the tools to use Camera.

Sounds like only Canon can help you. Don't think they list the software as Windows 8 compatible yet, or do they?

If Win8 has altered any of the APIs/services that EOS Utility uses in Win7/XP/etc, then you'll have to wait for Canon to release an update.

'Tis the bane of all early-adopters, unfortunately...

Win 8 has just been released, so I'm not surprised it's not working with softwares shipped on the CD with 5DIII.

Check the version of each of the softwares and see if there is a newer version online at your closest Canon website. However, looking at it just now on the USA site, Canon only lists through Windows 7, 64 bit at this point in time. No mention of Win 8 versions at all. Maybe you'll find them on some of the other country websites.

Windows 7 has a lot of compatibility troubleshooting built in (at least it does in the version I use), and I'd be surprised if Win 8 has any less. Try right-clicking on the icon on your desktop and see if the menu includes "Troubleshoot compatibility" selection.... if so, run that and see what the results are.

This is one reason I wouldn't run out and adopt new OS right away... there's often a time lag until other s'wares I use are fully vetted with it and problems ironed out. I probably won't upgrade to Win 8 for at least 5 or 6 months.

Well, it's not released yet. Don't expect other software to support it before release.

Yeah it's not the full retail/market ready version. You may be on the RTM but other software hasn't necessarily all caught up yet. There may be tricks to make most things work but when you get in to software that interacts with external hardware, that's usually where I've found the most trouble immediately after OS upgrades.

I'm using Windows 8 with Canon 50D, and have no problem uploading the photos to my laptop.
