So, after nearly a year of drooling over finally upgrading my monitor to something more...substantial, I ordered the Dell U2711 earlier this week from B&H. It came in today and I have to say, I'm blown away by it. The color space right out of the box is incredible. Colors are incredibly vibrant and the resolution is mind boggling after having had a 22" widescreen for ~6-7 years.

Left is the U2711 monitor, right is an older Dell 21.5" widescreen monitor acting as my second monitor now. The colors will obviously look the same to you, but the one of the right in person looks drab and boring.

Will probly post more thoughts on it after I dive into Lightroom and edit some of my backwork that I've been putting off due to waiting for this to arrive.

So are you still a happy camper?

I have wanting to upgrade the wife and I from HP 2511 to a 27" IPS panel. The candidates seem to be the 2711, a HP model, and Apple Thunderbolt. I understand they all source the same IPS panel. So I would be interested in your impressions of editing on the monitor. Did you calibrate it?

Yep, I made the jump to a 30" about 6 years ago and cant imagine going back! Once you get used to all that screen real estate you wonder how you ever used a computer with anything less!

Enjoy!
