It could have been called that back in the mid 80's(11/85) using the New FD mount, no such lens in the EF mount though.

I still want a Magic Drainpipe. :) I get a kick out of using old lenses, and my EF 50mm 1.8 mk I gets a heck of a lot of use...

Does "pancake" really count as a nickname for the 40? I consider that just a lens classification since there are plenty of pancake lenses (even though it is the only current one for Canon).
