Who would ever buy this camera or similar, now that the Sony RX1 is on it's way?

Well there's also the other Sony with a smaller, yet still bigger than other compacts, sensor that costs around the same?

Who would even attempt to put those two camera's in the same catagory?

One will be a sub-$500 compact camera with good manual controls and a retractable zoom lens, one is a $2,800 proof-of-concept with a $600 seperate viewfinder and huge fixed prime lens.

Well thats hardly fair, Canon did give us IS, DO, "affordable" FF, etc...

Recently they have been disappointing though.

Of course Canon did great things in the past but lately there is very little to get excited about - and I am an avid Canon user. It just seems they are sitting on their hands and watch the rest of the industry pass them at full speed.

Whoa, a $600 separate viewfinder? seems a little steep

No joke, $599 for an "optical viewfinder" that sits on top of the hotshoe and $179 for the hood! Want somewhere to put your thumb, they have that covered too for $249:

For the price of the viewfinder you could attach a G15 to the hotshoe of the RX-1 and use it as a viewfinder.

Hey, to be fair it may be the best camera the world has ever known, no body knows yet. However, the crowd they are going for with the RX-1 camera, certainly isn't the crowd that would go buy a G15.

f1.8-2.8 through the zoom range is pretty awesome I think.

Makes you wonder why they didn't include that with the G12?
