who so high with the F stop? Also, at 1/1000 I'm guessing it's not camera shake, little focus issue maybe.

Depth of field.

I think the photo is all around softish. It has to do with the high ISO...;)

Yeah, I'm not sure what DOF has to do with it when you're that close. 1Dx or no 1Dx, you're never gonna be able to shoot in a light-challenged environment at an F stop high enough for acceptable focus that can stop action without having sky-high ISO, if it's even possible at all. In the end it doesn't really matter, it's soft.

I don't think it has anything to do with the ISO. It looks out of focus.

Here's one at ISO 12,800, 1/1000, f4:

I'm still learning the camera, but I do know it is capable of so much more than its predecessors, and is capable of very crisp images at 12,800.

My 1Dx arrived 4 days ago, such an impressive camera. Too bad I'm the limiting factor now :o

Here's an interesting comparison, in low light, of the 1DX, 5DMK3, 5DMK2 & the 1D4.

You can pretty much bet $6800 which one is best.

Not quite up to the high standards already set here, but here's some of my first images with the 1DX.

Day 1 ... evening walk around with the 70-200 II
Day 2 ... evening High School football. I've never attempted this before and I now have a deep respect for those who get amazing images in very sub optimal lighting conditions !

All images run through DFine with auto settings, cropped for composition with minimal exposure tweaks.

A kite being mobbed by magpies in Hertfordshire.

These were taken on a Canon 1DX and an EF300L 2.8 handheld. I had been having a cup of tea when I spotted these guys out of the corner of my eye. I had no preparation other than switching the camera on.

I've cropped these photographs, and don't normally photograph birds, so was quite impressed when I saw this on my monitor! :)
