SD cards are ... how to put it nicely ... the worst thing that ever happened to humanity. Any 1D4 owner who shoots sports will tell you that. Why did they put a SD card slot in 1D4? I have no idea, I only use for back-ups. SD Cards are sooooo slow. When you're shooting 10FPS in RAW, you need ever last MB/S that a card has to offer. I have a 16GB 90mbs sandisk SD card in there and it feels like a 90 kbps comparing to my CF lexar professional card. I will bet everyone here that due to those stupid SD cards that D600 will only shoot 5fps for about ... well a second before the buffer gives up and the card explodes.

As far as I know 1D4 is not UHS-1 enable (it' was invented yet...lol), and it's still using SDHC tech (not the new SDXC). The SD slot on D800 is the first FF camera that use SDXC & UHS-1 tech which pretty much let me burst all day long with with RAW+JPEG with that 36 Gigapixels

SD is catching up while CF is reaching it's bottleneck, how many electronics use CF card other than flagship cameras?

^ You can't mount EF-S lens to FF mount so no point to make a crop mode.

Unless you think Canon is charitable enough to include it for Sigma lens owners.. :)

Cisco routers? :p

I agree. Plus they already announced the next standard which is XQD, so I doubt much new RD will be going into CF.

Falls under the heading of "you get what you pay for..." :D

Honestly I think the earlier quote about the format being akin to 8-track is fairly accurate. I just don't see SD as being the "next big thing." There has to be something that's actually better before an old tech dies.

Magnetic tape (8-track, cassette, reel-to-reel, etc.) didn't go away until the CD (a whole new technology) came around.

Back on topic, why aren't more folks calling BS on this list of specs?

well it's possible that these specs are right. If they want to be lazy and just do something then yea it's possible.

but the fact that specs include built in wifi and gps raise the question of how true this is.

if it is, the nikon camera is a better buy

and for the other thing, why no pop up flash? if the camera is indeed a cheaper brother the to the 5dmk3 then wouldn't they also include a pop up flash

Possible better sensor. Will have to wait and see if Canon has figured out how to get better DR and if they have solved their banding issue that seems to plague all current Canon sensors.

Maybe it's time for Canon to start contracting the next senors with Sony too. It might be the best move for the sake of its loyal users.

Let's assume this is the correct specs for 6D:

http://digicame-info.com/2012/09/eos-6d-20.html (external link)

- Full size CMOS sensor is a newly developed 20.2 million pixel sensor
- DIGIC5 + image processing engine
- Body, which is on par with miniaturized machine APS-C
- The body is magnesium alloy cover only
- Built-in W-Fi
- Built-in GPS
- AF is 11 points, the corresponding central cross sensor F2.8

- Burst 4.5 seconds frame / best
- 30-1/4000 seconds, second sync at 1/180 shutter speed shutter durability of 100,000
- Drip-proof dustproof
- 3-inch 1.04 million dot LCD monitor
- Video - Full HD (1920x1080)
- (50,51200,102400 extension) ISO100-25600
- Creative Auto
- SD / SDHC / SDXC media (corresponding UHS-I)
- (Battery, including media) 755g weight
- Around 195 000 yen ($2492), expected price over-the-counter body EF24-105mm F4L IS kit around ¥ 295 000

So how is it 6D vs D600 (IF the 6D specs list is correct ) ?. Which one is better ?.

VERY DISAPPOINTING canon. And of course, it has to be more expensive the D600 too. super meh.

The only "cool" thing about 6D is the built in wifi and gps but to be honest, I'll end up turning them off anyway (especially gps) since I'm pretty sure it'll just drain by battery.

If I had a 5D3, and then the entry-level/cheap/budget/whatever-you-want-to-call-it camera has a better performing sensor, then I would be super pissed. I highly doubt that this camera will have any sort of improvements in DR or banding.

I agree with the others, Canon should look into Sony sensors.

I agree, seniors deserve special treatment. Canon may be the 800 lb. gorilla in camera sales but for the sake of it's loyal users -- please respect the seniors

Canon has done it before. The MkII comes out then a few months later the 7D comes out and smokes the MkIIs AF.

This. Not even close to the same thing in my book. It won't happen.

Not just cisco, alot of embedded systems use it, why its VERY reliable. I have seen 10s and 10s of sd cards die under high use, yet not a single of my CF cards died.

But new technology in a lower model. THe 5DII is the camera that should have had the better technology but it got the 6 year old AF. It wouldn't surprise me if the new 6D got something new. Canon needs to do something in the sensor arena just to keep pace with the others.

Looking at the D800 and D600, then at the 5D3 and whatever the 6D turns out to be, I think Canon have irretrievably lost the plot. I won't be buying any more Canon compatible gear, and when I can afford it I'll swap over. Absolutely certainly.
