I don't get much of a chance to photograph aircraft but here is one of a G450. My co-workers husband works for the owner and was able to get me access to shoot it at it's homecoming flight.

One of mine, too.
I mildly chewed this guy out for always taxiing with his wings folded, & asked him to give the photogs a break! ; )

Here's another one @ 1/80 sec.

Some fantastic images on here, but my understanding of a good panning shot is a sharp aircraft and a horizontally motion blurred background. Am i just under a mis-apprehension regarding this or are we getting a lot of basic (but excellent) normal aviation photo's?

Don't forget the prop blur. If you don't have that, it's just another aircraft parked in the air. ; )

yep, and that's the reason I started this thread. It's all about the background and/or prop blur, and to improve ones slow speed shutter skills. I know I haven't been out to an airport for way too long now, but I certainly have improved my technique because of it.

To be honest though, there is only a few in here I would consider outside of the topic, most in here are dragging that shutter nicely! I probably could have named the thread better however to make mention of this trying to be a slow shutter style panning thread, rather than just another plane thread.

If you get substantial prop blur on an aircraft in flight (with the possible exception of dead, head-on or tails-away), you've panned well...
