I want a blog site. Right now I only have a smugmug. I like it alright. It's low priced for storage and I have some time until my renewal with this price hike. but I want to have a wordpress blog.

I asked them if I could have one integrated with smugmug and they sent me to some apps, one of which was photographyblogsites.com that integrates smugmug with their wordpress sites and blogs. But if I go that route I'm looking at $450 a year between the two. Anyone use them?

I also looked at the prophotoblog site. They seem pretty popular but not sure if they integrate with smugmug.

Any other ideas to get my wordpress blog integrated with smugmug? I did consider just linking it but I really dont like the idea of taking people offsite.

This is pretty easy to do using smugmug's custom domain feature.

For example, you can have blog.yourdomain.com point to a wordpress instance while yourdomain.com still goes to your smugmug account. Vice versa too if you want photo.yourdomain.com to go to smugmug and yourdomain.com go to your wordpress. :)

Would I do that thru my web host then? My smugmug does have a custom name

The DNS for your domain is being managed by your domain registrar (GoDaddy) so what you'll need to do is to add an A record:

http://support.godaddy.com …dns-for-your-domain-names (external link)

Then you'll need to contact your host that's going to host your WordPress (NOT smugmug unless they can host your Wordpress for you) and let them know you want them to host the blog.abbymalonephotography.com domain since abbymalonephotography.com is your smugmug gallery.

Once this is done, abbymalonephotography.com should still continue to point to Smugmug. blog.abbymalonephotography.com will point to your other host where you can install Wordpress blog.

When you hear the term "integrated with smugmug" they are talking about themes. Smugmug does not host any blogs like wordpress (you can do static-ish pages, but that's obviously not the same thing).

What people do is what you seemingly already have done. blog.mydomain.com points to an external site. It's just whatever that external site is, it is themed to match smugmug. They may do other stuff that makes it easier to integrate smugmug galleries as well, but that is the overall gist of it.
