DP review has just posted some real-life sample shots .

These two shots are at iso 6400 :

http://www.dpreview.com …ikon-d600-preview-samples (external link)
http://www.dpreview.com …ikon-d600-preview-samples (external link)

pretty clean , i haven't tried the D800 so i'm not sure how the D600 iso performance compares to it

Looks like my D700 at 3200 to be honest. But I'm withholding judgment until I see shots from real people (i.e. forum-goers :D).

When I see all these (rightly) lukewarm responses to the problems of banding and people coming together to talk about not wanting to buy Canon gear because their recent offerings don't have a great deal of DR, and yet the Canon don't seem to (be willing to) fix it, I do wonder if Canon employees only get to see this forum through a text filter...

Well according to the 6D what we really needed was a touch screen and WiFi. GPS is nice too but no good if you pictures are noisy and full of banding :)

Just got a mail from a UK retailer confirming the 6D specs:

20.2MP, 4.5fps, only 11 AF points, no folding screen, no built in flash. From the pics it looks like it even lacks the joystick (i.e. like a 60D). From my point of view, vs. a D600, I'm not sure it even manages to come second. A very poor looking effort frankly.

If I was in the market for a Canon it would be the 5D III. Might as well pony up for the better spec body.

Exactly. It seems that Canon are going down the road of feature tickboxes. Don't get me wrong, built in WiFi, GPS and a touchscreen are great, but I'd much rather have a banding free, high DR sensor, with decent controls on the body. If it had sported a built in flash (useful for remotely firing another flash), the joystick from the 7D, the 7D AF, and maybe the folding screen from the 60D I might (just) have been interested.

Yep. Would love to go full frame (currently got a 7D) but the 6D looks like step down from the 7D in too many other departments.

Still struggling to wrap my head around the idea of running both Canon and Nikon gear (plus the grief I'd catch from she-who-must-be-obeyed) so it would be a 5DIII. I'd accept the 5D MP count (still higher than the 7D) but the banding/DR on the 7D does bite sometimes, and I don't believe the 5DIII is leagues better.

And despite all that, I've just realised I wrote "...and yet the Canon don't seem...". :o
