I don't think the difference between 1/180 and 1/200 is going to make THAT much of a difference. Most of the time it probably won't even come into play when shooting in the sun. I can see the difference between 1/500 and 1/250 much more.

Both of your bodies do 1/250" and so does my 7D so its a 1/180" to 1/250" we are talking about.

We've had the 5D3 going for $2750-2800 after just a few months (on sale) so maybe we'll be seeing similar sales for the 6D.

Where do people keep seeing these deals? I guess you just have to be watching out for them at the right time? 5DIII at $2800 is a reasonable price that would have made a lot of sense at launch. Maybe the market has spoken, hence the price cuts. 5DIII is a great camera with one of the few legitimate gripes IMO being the initial asking price. Wish I could say the same about the 6D--not sure they could ever lower the price enough to where they'd still make money and the camera would make sense. Dat AF...

What do these strobist do with the sync port. I have had sync ports on all my cameras and only time I used that sync port was when I got AB strobes and had that crappy cable to sync with. Use the radio triggers IMHO. Now a days you have som many options with pass through if needed.

And 5d always did clean 1/160. Never ever a problem shooting. But then I don't go out with hot shoe flash when shooting out in the sun. Would I like 1/500, hell yes. But 1/200 vs 1/250 is nothing.

I'm not a big user of the synch port myself, but I do use flash in the sun a lot. I like to under expose the sky and give the deep blue look without having to mess around in post production.

Workers in Thailand can't screw together parts as well as those in Japan so I should pay more for less?

you can't argue Thailand's labor cost is cheaper than Japan's.

For that you need bunch of hot shoe flashes like that Joe McNally guy. I have Einstein 640 ws and I can't do deep blue sky in the sun when using a beauty dish. Forget Softbox. Hot shoe flash is like what 60-80ws.

The most recent sale was from Adorama via eBay. It was mentioned here on POTN as well as a few other forums but usually those types of posts are in the "Market Watch" or "Hot Deals" sections. Usually just a one day deal. The Adorama deal via eBay sold at least ~700 last time I checked the listing. I don't know what it ended at.

Something to consider is that Canon manufactures many of their bodies and lenses in Japan (with other EOS pieces being made in Malaysia or Taiwan).

While toying with the idea of switching to Nikon, I noticed that many of their bodies are made in Thailand, and many new lenses in China (even some costing several hundred dollars).

My guess is that perhaps Canon was affected far more by the Japanese earthquake than Nikon. Additionally Canon has higher manufacturing costs because they choose to manufacture their products (mostly) in a first world country known for producing high quality items.

I'm wondering if perhaps their R&D and product cycle was interrupted more than we know due to unforseen circumstances.

Something else to consider is that Canon will likely blow Nikon away in the mirrorless category. The Nikon J series was a bit of a joke with its limited lenses and smaller sesnor. Canon chose to use APS-C and has a EF/EF-S adapter ready to go. When it hits the market the EOS-M body will have the largest "system" out there right now, likely with another more sophisticated body on the way.

The 6D appears to be an afterthough, and maybe it was just a way of adding a couple features to a 5D mkII type camera while lowering production costs (smaller body etc.). I'm hoping it was just a product that was launched for the sake of having a product, because they're a bit behind in R&D or their expected product cycle. The 5DIII on the other hand was a great camera.

I believe someone in another forum posted that it was at 812 or so before it ended.

To find out about the deals, check slickdeals or check eBay's deal of the day updated daily at 8am PST. Be careful because the daily deals sometimes feature bodies that are grey market, but in the last deal from Adorama or Beach you're good.

eBay has also had 7D and 5DII deals through beach. At this point there's no question on whether to purchase a 6D body at $2100 or wait for a 5D3 deal at $2750 or so (for those in the market).

Well after more reading and debating, I think Im just going to upgrade from my T1i to a 7D. It fits more the bill I need and want out of a body than the 6D or any of the 5D's.

You know, a lot of people on here say that the grass is greener on the other side, but ever since I got my D700 I haven't had the urge to switch back to Canon yet. I actually like the 6D, because it justified my ship-jumping :D

Enough Nikon trolling. Please read this https://photography-on-the.net …p=14106280&postcount=2100

If you can't stay on topic and if you can't agree that this is " Canon Digital Photography Forums > 'Equipment Talk' section > Canon EOS Digital Cameras" then please refrain from posting to this thread.

This is the last warning before I start delivering Nikon trolls some forced vacations from the forums.

Not even a dedicated Canon Forum is immune to Nikon trolls.... Sad

Well I am planning on adding some more speedlites, but for now I usually use the 580 on one side of the face and the 430 on the other side neither with a light modifier and can get a good stop or two to darken the sky up some. Now I am not shooting large groups for this either though.

And why not? I put a lot of hard earned money into a brand that I like and trust, and now they release such an underwhelmed product against its main rivals. That is embarrassing!

So are you telling me this CAN compete with the D600 in things that actually matters?

For me, what would be embarrassing is when someone with a lesser camera showed better photos.

I understand but, you come into the Nikon thread talking about the D600. There are many like you who have a dilemma. ;)

I don't see what the dilemma is. 5d2 owners can upgrade to the 5d3. Rebel, 60d and 7d, can upgrade to the 6d, 5d3, or 1dx.

Those who were expecting a combo 1dx/5d3 in a $2,000 body were due to be disappointed.
