I have had my business for a while now and just did payment at the time of the photo shoot or wedding. I recently have been getting alot of business and have weddings booked for the upcoming months and next year. I was thinking I may need to type up some sort of contract for my customers to sign to protect me and them but I have no clue what to do? Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I even bother with a contract? And does anyone know of a sample contract I can look at so I can form my own? Thank you in advance.

You absolutely need to get every shoot on a contract. It protects you and protects them.

John Mirales is a great resource for contracts.

You also will want a local attorney to review it to make sure it is in compliance with local laws.

A contract separates the pro from the hobbyist.

If you've got an iPad or iPhone, Photographers Contract Maker is a great app to have - new contracts always with you, completely customisable for different jobs (wedding, portrait, 2nd shooter etc.), reduce paper usage, email copies to yourself and the client. It also looks a lot more professional than pulling a crumpled piece of paper from your bag (and you can always add the 'green' bit that your reducing your paper and ink usage to help the environment too)

2x 7d, EOS 3 film body, G15, X-Pro1 with 18mm f2, 35mm f1.4 & 60mm f2.4 macro, Kiev rangefinder with 50mm lens. 70-200 f4L, 17-40 f4 L, 50mm f2.5 macro, nifty fifty, 20-40 EX HSM, Samyang 85mm f1.4, Rokinon 8mm f3.5, 2x Fuji X-Pro1, Fuji XF 18mm f2, 35mm f1.4, 60mm f2.4 macro, 3x Yongnuo 560 II, 540EZ, Phottix Strato 2 wireless triggers, extension tubes, Manfrotto 055 tripod, manfrotto monopod.

I have Contract Maker on my iPad and like it very much, but so far I've only used it for personal (non-commercial) work. I have a commercial job coming up, and I'm using Contract Maker to create my first commercial contract. I know they're going to want to review the contract before signing and possibly make some changes. Does Contract Maker let me email unsigned versions of the contract for review?

Working with no contract is suicide..Glad to hear you are going in the right direction :) Even free shoots should have a contract.

You can look at this as a reference contract

and maybe buy this one for $30.00

as always proceed with caution and consult your attorney:)

I just tried and it let me, so I don't think there should be a problem?
