Nice shots Damian! That's a very nice contribution to the thread. The fifth one, the shot of the guys, is just excellent: great posing, setting, and I like the sepia/monotone processing! :)

These are more what I expected from this lens. Starting to see the same quality on other sites. These will work for me and are making me calm down about why I ordered this lens in the firs place. Hope mine comes shortly. Thanks for posting.....

I too think it's too early to make any definitive judgement about this lens. So far, evidence regarding its sharpness is conflicting from what I've seen, maybe there's some copy variation, or maybe some tests have been a bit too hastily performed.
When the 70-200 II was launched OTOH there was virtual unanimity that it was a game-changer from day one and every sample image posted seemed to confirm this.
I'm a bit surprised that the improvement over the old lens seems a bit less clear cut or at least not as easily demonstrable this time.

Looking at your gear list do you really need another lens? :-}

Well I ordered a 5D3 and 70-200 MK2 from one of our local gear stores the other day store and they just got the 24-70 in today so I brought my 5D2 in and took a few test shots. Not sure what to make of it but so far not overly impressed. I have the 24-105 and it is a decent lens but it does not sharpen up until f5.6 and I need something that will be sharp with a lower f stop.

However a good point made in this thread was not to judge too early and to is tough to make judgement in a store. I'm a bit shaky and as I stated I prayed for IS. These were taken @ ISO 3200.

That 70mm cropped looks a little mushy. Maybe I'm messing up something in my PP. I added 30 luminance NR in LR but I think it should be crisper.

maybe NR'd ISO 3200 shots aren't the best examples.

i'm not so sure you're going to get the sharpest/cleanest results on the 5D II at ISO 3200 either.

Though I will say that the in-store shots have a very nice rendering quality to them. Obviously that's not a setting condusive to great photography, so all-in-all, the shots look good to me. I like the subject-isolating bokeh on the guy in the store. Looks like he's popping out from the background. Also, I'm looking for wonky distortion @24mm and it's not too bad (the iPod Docks slatwall looks curved).

digital paradise: All-around excellent post; I really appreciate it! My 61-point AF 5D III is just begging me to get one of these. ;)

I think the iPod docks display wall is physically curved. I had seen a distortion grid somewhere and the is some barrel distortion but not that much. I am going back today to do some outdoor tests at a lower ISO. I will check put that display a follow up. I don't think they will mind since I ordered the above mentioned items.

Here are a few more a various focal lengths. They are either 24 or 70.

Looks good to me! I am really excited to get mine tomorrow... I just hope all my shipping requests get solved (drop shipped to local fedex for pickup) since I will not be home from 10:30 to 2pm... And guess when Fedex would come? Probably 1:55 :p
