Cliff Notes:

Went to a local photography meetup group.
Motivated for a higher quality and versatile lens.
The speaker at the group who is highly published highly recommended this lens.
Slept on the idea.
Awoke.
Got wife's permission.
Ordered.
Will have Friday.
First "L" lens.
Better be worth the dinero! :-P

Congrats..!

Just curious, James. How did you find one so soon? How is it that it’s being delivered in matter of days, while many of us are still awaiting after pre-ordering months ago..?!

I found it on Amazon. I didn't realize the lens was in such short supply.

From Amazon? I've been waiting for this lens to become available for order at Amazon, and I'm still waiting. Are you sure you ordered the Mark II, and not the original version?

for the price of the L i'd go for a 17-55IS, and a 70-200f4IS...but whatever makes you happy...it seems to me like you could upgrade a lot of your lenses, or maybe even go to a 5D II for that much $$

Right. Just out of curiosity, did the fella who recommended this lens actually have one that he'd used? If not, what was he basing his recommendation on?

IMO, although this lens looks pretty promising at this point, it's still something of an unknown quantity, and I'm waiting for some more review before I decide whether it's really worth $2,300.

I decided against not upgrading my body and to upgrade my lenses. And I'm very glad I caught the mistake 2 hours of ordering. I went to review the order and saw no "II". Then I saw reviews going back to 2005. My stomach turned into an Olympic gymnasium. Lol

As for the wife, she always green lights. I handle the finances. So it's a respect thing.
