I hope they've worked the bugs out. I'm already slowly warming my wife up to the idea of me buying the new lens when it comes out.;) She says I'd better be happy with it and not even think about buying another lens. I could never afford the Canon 300 2.8L IS new and a warranty should never be taken for granted.

Pentax K1 MKii, Panasonic G9, Panaleica 100-400, Samyang 12mm F2 NCS CS, 7Artisans 7.5mm f2.8 fisheye, Panagor 90mm f2.8 Macro (OM), Canon 200mm f4 Macro FD, Sigma APO 2x DG EX TC, Tiffen aXent ND 3.0 (ND1000) filter, Olympus OMD E-M5(drown in the Atlantic), Oly 14-42mm, Oly 12-50mm, ZEQ25gt Mount, plus a few other lenses, extension tubes, and general mish-mash

Let's hope that it's a one-time-failure, but I'm a bit sceptical after seeing Jay T's experience with the 120-300 2.8 OS (I almosed pissed in my pants)

Yea, let's hope he got one of the only bad apples of the bunch.

Considering the warranty, I'm inclined to hold onto it. If something goes wrong, I get it fixed. The alternative is spending more money in the long run...

Didn't couple of folks here on this thread have the OS fail on their lens? One had more than one time on the same lens? I could be wrong but that is what I thought.

My question is after 4 times doesnt it fall under a Lemon Law wherein you can demand a new lens at that point?

Mine did not fail till 9 or 10 months old.But I shoot 10-15 hours a week with this lens. Its my most used lens by far.So when you have used it for that long and it has not broke consider yourself lucky. Just got it back yesterday. Paperwork says replaced the OS unit. Seems to be working like new. You can bet your lunch money that sigma's new 120-300 well not have the problems this one does. Wish there was a way to find out how many went back to sigma for problems. Must have been an awful lot in 2-3 years to release a version 2 this soon.

I do not know that answer but I was going to ask them but the guy I talked to was the service manager and he is a stand up guy who is a pleasure to deal with. They cover shipping both and they get it back in less than a week. But if I don't sell it and it craps out again I'm going to try my damnest to give it back for one of the new ones and pay the balance if the new one is more. I don't think thats asking to much from them.

Its not, its fair, You paid for a lens, The lens is brand new and i highly doubt you've taken bad care of it, While yes, things happen, in this case you've gone through having the same thing repaired several times over and I think its right you ask for a new lens at this point as theres something majorly wrong... its also still under a warranty on top of it...

Confirmation, the 120-300 has a new electronics design:

http://www.photographyblog.com …lenses_-_hands-on_photos/ (external link)

and the 120-300mm f/2.8 Sports lens, which replaces quite a new 120-300mm lens, featuring the same optics with cosmetically new styling and different electronics. Available in early 2013, all 3 have prices to be confirmed nearer to launch.

That USB dock should have been a macro ring with USB connector! Or put webcam functionality in it :D

I'd imagine lenses that can be 'docked' would never need to go back to Sigma for re-chipping. Smart move to introduce this.

Id wait

The new electronics and AF stuff sound worth it to me, Supposedly early 2013 is the release date so unless you need it NOW or can put it to use right now, id just hold off a little to get the new version

No "lemon laws" in Australia so you're at the mercy of the Australian distributor of Sigma photo products

Well, the current one is a keen price, especially second hand. The new one will carry a premium at first and it will take a while before it's available too.
