My copy just arrived. Initial shots seem to be pretty sharp, but I'll need some time to really test it out.

Focus ring seems looser and zoom ring seems rougher (similar to the 24-105 feel) than say my 70-200 II. Anyone else notice this?

I am guessing they won't feel the same. the 70-200 has a geared zoom mechanism while the 24-105 and 24-70 is a slotted type mechanism. I don't know the exact names, sorry!

Ahh...makes sense. I must say the 70-200 II feels much smoother. The new 24-70 II is a lot like the 24-105, except the focus ring seems much smoother/looser for whatever reason (zoom ring is almost identical). I actually like how the 24-105 focus ring feels better.

24-70II is sharper than the sharpest prime out there. 24-105 is not even close to prime sharp...

Bokeh wise, it's 9 aperture blades on the mkII vs 8 on the 24-105. And the fact that it does f2.8 makes the difference even more apparent.

Overall - no comparison.

You need IS and reach? Go with 24-105. Sharpness and bokeh? 24-70II hands down.

How does it compare ith a 70-200f2.8 mk2 ?

Just to follow up on PCNation I called these guys on the phone today and verified they have stock sitting on the shelf. There are so few of these lenses right now I wanted to make sure they have units to ship. I've seen it too many times where some site lists something only to send an e-mail later that it's out of stock but still charge your CC anyway. As you can see from the Canon USA link below this company is an authorized dealer of Canon so there shouldn't be any issues:

Great to hear! I look forward to it Friday. If I get my body back Friday I'll have a weekend in Pittsburgh with it. Plenty of good testing I can do!

Yes, Mine as well. :-(

It showed they had them in stock last night when I ordered it. But I got a call this morning they had sold out when I put my order in. And so, mine is on back-order status.
