I almost sold mine, but didn't want to go through the hassle. I'm so glad I didn't!!
This is the best news I've seen in quite a while.

WOW! This is great news. It sounds like they have a few bugs to figure out first, but they are working on it.

I just got a new Nexus 7 tablet and downloaded a Google app called "DSLR Controller" to it. Got an OGT cable and connected it all to my 7D and Whammo! I've got a killer external monitor as well as the ability to control the camera remotely and have focus peaking as well as many other killer features. So I was starting to think that maybe I don't need any ML for my 7D. But if they have finally figured it out, I'll be really happy! I just hope they figure out a way to display audio levels on screen. It sounds like they are having issues with audio between the 7D and ML. Not surprising...

Is there anything anywhere that describes exactly what ML is and what becomes possible with it?

Yeah, on their web site. But the firmware for the 7D isn't yet available. If you read the article it says that a possible Alpha version might become available real soon. At this point I'll wait until it at least gets to a Beta version. Let them fix a bunch of the bugs first.

Chas is DSLR controller compatible with ML?

I'm considering picking up a Nexus 7 for this purpose and to balance losing my Nexus phone for an iPhone 5.

How long does this usually take - i.e. for the Beta version to come out after an announcement like this?

Well because I own a 7D I wouldn't know if ML works with DSLR Controller or not. I assume it will though. As for the Nexus 7 and DSLR Controller, its actually pretty damn cool so far. Right now I need to figure out a mount system for the Nexus 7. There a couple of them out there that look nice and light and will protect the tablet.

Would bet the Alpha version becomes available real soon, maybe later this month, but who knows. If that happens, then a beta could become available in two to three months. But t took this long to figure out how to load anything to the model.

Should be interesting to see how high you can go with FPS override if they include it in the 7D version.

I would assume the same, ML runs on top of the original firmware so everything that worked on the original should still work with ML.

Yippe! Although I'll wait for enough people to test it first before I install it ;)

Damn, I won't be able to pull Chas' leg for buying the wrong camera now. ;-)a Magic Lantern is a lot like Sony Vegas, you keep finding good things you didn't know were there.

It certainly helps a great deal when doing video on a DSLR. My latest favorite feature is being able to connect headphones to monitor the cameras audio. Saves the hassle of plugging in an external device over and above a mic.
