A final few shots from the Johnny Appleseed Festival. A couple of my cousins
were running some of the food concessions so it seemed like a good time to try
a few casual portraits of them and some of their kids and crew. Besides, I got
a free BBQ brisket sammidge from them so I felt I owed them a little something.

Well Canon's DPP software comes with an HDR tool and I hadn't really worked
with it much. I used a homemade diffuser on the on-camera flash which seems to
have helped open up the shadows but I wanted to try to give them a little more
punch so I ran a couple thru the HDR. It didn't take too long to realize that
the effect was very easy to overdo, especially for portraits.

I kept experimenting and taking different approaches and tried to keep things
dialed back a bit until I got an effect that I liked. And then I went back on a
couple of them and dialed them back some more and hopefully improved them.

So the big question is... Am I anywhere in the ballpark with these or do they
still look too heavy handed? Is there a particular sequence of adjustments that
you find works better for HDR?

Here's a couple more for you to glom on.

And I found a work around to get my pictures to post. Post them up with the faulty links and then edit the post and take out an errant carriage return that's being added for some reason. Problem with the text edit window when first trying to post? Browser problem with IE8? Meh, it's too late to worry about it any more tonight.

My fisheye also reports being taken at 50mm! :-)

Guess it's normal considering that there is no comunication between the lens and the camera (f's and fd).

I'm guessing you had a fun weekend! Some gorgeous exotic racers on display somewhere.

But I keep staring at that orange rear-engine job! At first I was thinking it was a Karmann Ghia with a Daimler hemi but something didn't look quite right. Then I saw that little hint of a split rear window. Good lord, it's a Tatra! With a Tatra engine... maybe??? Got any more shots of this one-of-a-kind racer?

they were from the Goodwood Revival 2012, unfortunately I took 3 pictures of that particular car, but they were all from the same prospective.

Thanks! Sure. I actually posted the setup in the Setup and Result thread link here. That setup is showing my first shot and after that I added another flash on the right to even it out a bit. I also removed umbrellas from the flashes to shoot at smaller aperture and get more things in focus. I darkened it a bit after since this was the look I wanted.
