New 5DII, what lens 35mm f2 or 24-70mm?

Hi all, I am a new full frame shooter, just got a 5DII and I am truly in love. You can see my lens lineup below, but I am looking to sell/trade the Tamron 17-50mm since it won't work on FF.

My question: should I go with the Canon 28 f1.8 or 35 f2, or should I go with a 24-70/28-75 variant? I most shooting portraits (seniors, families, pinups, etc) outdoors and in studio, and feel very comfortable with the 50mm, but think I need something a little wider also.

Get 35L, you will love it.

If I were you, I'd get the rokinon 35mm. It's WAAAY cheaper than the 35L and makes some seriously amazing pictures. Manual focus isn't as hard as you'd think, either. Someone recommended sitting on the side of a busy street and manually tracking license plates until you were comfortable with MF. I actually did that, and now it's as easy (and almost as quick) as using an AF lens.

You have to ask yourself what you like to shoot most with, primes or zooms. If you love your zooms go with the 24-70, if you prefer primes go with the 28 or 35. You won't have anything wide once you sell the 17-50 and I will say a 24-70 really is a terrific lens on a full frame body.

I would get the 24-105l. It is a great lens on a crop and should be perfect on a 5DII.
I got one for my 60d ...great lens.

I love the primes and want to go that way...just not sure if I will regret it. Right now I don't have anything wider than 50mm and I am loving it, just want to make sure I am covered for large groups...and some street shooting.

Thinking I am going to swap out the 70-200 for a Tamron or Sigma in f2.8 also.

If you used the 17-55 a lot then the 24-70, or the 24-105 will match up nicely.

As for primes, I hear the 50mm is well suited for a full frame camera. 35mm can cause exaggerated proportions on a full frame camera.

24-70, and here's why:

24-70 is basically your wide angle lens, and 50 is your normal lens. 24 is a lot wider than 35 and can give you more creative shots. Any perspective exaggeration the 35 can do, the 24-70 can do better... and the 50 can serve as the ultra low available light lens.

IMO, the 50 should compliment the 24-70, not the other way around.

I am a fan of zoom lenses. The benifits of primes is out weighed by their limitations. The IQ of Canon's latest generation of zooms is terrific.
